Fast & friendly service, nice open area that did not feel loud or crowded. Food was hot, fresh and delicious. My husband loved his coffee. I could eat a full plate of the banana nut waffles daily. Never a complaint with Yolk and when we left our to go bag behind the busser ran after us and brought it to our car! This location went above and beyond and we cannot wait to return.

Yolk is a great chain! The food is always so good! 1st time at the Oak Park River Forest location. I got the Rickey Omelet and my partner got the Corned Beef and Eggs. Our server was super sweet. The lady who brought out our food spilled the whole tray of our food; the 1st time brought out our food. My partner got syrup all over her shirt because of the error. She definitely should have brought the table/holder tray stand for bringing out the food. I do understand mistakes happen.

Formerly Grandma Sally's the sign in the parking lot still reads, "Parking for Grandma Sally's only." The interior has had an overhaul. New booths and tables. New black and yellow paint scheme. The booths benches are hard. It was like sitting on wood but covered in vinyl. It was just after 11 am. I went with lunch, and my dining partner went for breakfast. There were a special "$3 Latte, normally $5". On Wednesdays, they have $2 pancakes; that is one pancake for $2, limit three. The normal price for 3 pancakes is $14. 100% maple syrup is going to cost you an additional $2. I went with the Brisket Burger. The menu didn't get into any more description, and I should have asked. I was expecting brisket on top of a burger patty or brisket slices on a hamburger bun. I was served a normal burger. The server, who was very nice, explained it is a brisket patty. This was a dry patty, and brisket usually has a good deal of marbling. It should be juicy. It was $17.... for a dry burger. I asked her to bring a side of bacon ($5) and some cheese to help round out the sandwich, and it was fine, not $23 fine, but fine. My dining partner had the Countryside skillet, which was served with a side of sausage gravy. She said it was tasty and filling at $19. I also added a single Red Velvet French toast for $6. It was very sweet - the menu did have it the "Sweet Singles", and it delivered on the sweet. I had two bites and was done.

Food and ambience at Yolk was great. We were here for a celebratory brunch and enjoyed our time. All the entrees tasted good. The only complaint was that the tables are too close and there was an extra chatty group next to us which was disturbing. Would be nice to keep larger groups in a different section since the restaurant is not that small.

The presentation and choices are great(when you walk in) but from there the quality just goes downhill:(. I really tried to enjoy my visit, but it just wasn’t good:(. I spent $30 for grits and crepes. It all went downhill when I ordered the California Omelette. The Smashed Avocado killed the Omelette, I took two bites and sent it back. All I could taste was Avocado :(. Found no traces of any egg , cheese or mushrooms :(. The crepes and cheese grits saved me from leaving with an empty stomach. The server didn’t seem to want to help, only talk with other staff. The manager did take off my omelette but I was charged more than the omelette and got less food :(. The waitress did try to help offer a few suggestions but the more she spoke about each item, the less happy I was. She told me that there was smashed avocado in all the omelettes. I tasted my husband western omelette to see if I could get that, and the ham overpowered the entire omelette. They need to have the chef work on not being so heavy with some of the ingredients. From their, I just felt so discouraged and decided to settle on side orders of crepes and grits. just felt so un- inviting :(. The Cappuccino was the best thing I ordered. My husband LOVED the western Omelette and the Hostess was very friendly. The inside is very clean, but all in all I wasn’t thrilled. Spent $83 for a Cappuccino , two side orders of crepes, two sides cheesy grits, one omelette, plus one stack of Nutella crepes with a bacon side order to go. Needless to say, all of it was too expensive for 3 people.

Food was pretty good the first few times we went. Service good too. However, we went a few weeks ago and there was a cockroach in the syrup as I poured it over pancakes. Server was very kind and apologetic. Meal was comped and we left. Did not make a scene or anything. Disappointed about no manager coming out and apologizing so we have not gone back.
