We went to the Barn Fest today. It was GREAT! The kids loved the hayride the best. My granddaughter says she loved making apple cider with the old thing. I really enjoyed myself.

A little chilly, but still a nice start to Christmastime. We go every year. We've used the snowmen for Christmas cards for a few years. (We used our kids for those but they're now unwilling teenage participants)
We were there early so it was pretty sparse. No horse drawn buggy and no petting farm. Just crafts and gifts for you to buy.

A really cool old historic barn that has been turned into lots and lots of individual seller spaces for recent event. This is also a wedding venue.
It was definitely a class act.
I know they have been in business a long time, so Jan has it down pat! Check it out!!

Love the atmosphere...uneven floor is rustic, threw me off a little. Go every year for scenic drive. This year's cider was awesome! All kinds of booths...something for everyone!

I have shown my art at juried art shows at this barn for several years, both during the Knox County Scenic Drive and Thanksgiving weekends. This is a magnificent barn on the national register for old barns. The owners are wonderful to work with. The Knox County Scenic Drive is held the 1st and 2nd weekends in October and draws large numbers of people from the whole region. The artists who participate are very skilled and make beautiful art. ||The barn also acts as a venue for weddings, receptions, and other events throughout the year. I highly recommend that you visit the Walnut Grove Farm.

My daughter and I stayed here while visiting Knox College. The cottage is furnished with tasteful antiques and very comfortable furniture. It is very clean and well cared for. Jan prepared breakfast food as we requested and everything was made from scratch with wholesome high-quality ingredients. The farm is a National Historic Farmstead and a true treasure. We enjoyed walking the grounds and noticing the detailed architecture of all the structures on the property. Even though we live in California, I hope to return to this quietly magical place.

My daughter and I recently stayed at the Walnut Grove Farm bed and breakfast in Knoxville, Illinois while in Knox County for a genealogy weekend. My parents were both born in Abingdon and we were looking forward to spreading out from there to track down home sites and headstones. ||||Early on in our planning, my daughter found Walnut Grove Farm on Air BnB which is both my daughters’ go to accommodation website. We were thrilled to reserve the small home on the farm, so much more fun than staying in a hotel.||||Our hostess, Jan and her family were warm and welcoming and the two bedroom home was just perfect. We couldn’t have asked for a more appropriate place for a finding our roots odyssey. It was truly hard to leave!||||Jan made sure we had everything we needed with a nicely stocked kitchen and a wonderful quiche for our breakfast. It was a pleasure to return at the end of a day filled with walking and driving to the lovely little cottage.|| ||What we didn’t realize was it was also going to be the “Raise the Roof” festival on the farm as well as the Knox County Scenic Drive on the weekend we’d be there. Bonus! It was so nice to have the catbird seat in the extremely well-attended event at the farm. Walnut Grove Farm is simply beautiful, the barn and outbuildings look like a portrait and the main house is amazing. For the event, they had a petting zoo, music, farm market and artisans inside and outside the barn.|| ||My only disappointment was that we couldn’t spend more time just hanging around the farm and the little house. The setting is just lovely; it is the epitome of country living and I hope to return. I now fully understand why my parents always referred to Knox County as “down home”. It’s reassuring to know that such genuine people and places still exist and thrive in today’s world.

I loved this little guest cottage with its two sweet bedrooms, sunny kitchen, and cozy living room. It was decorated with local art that drew me to spend time just enjoying the images and creativity of the artists. The place was immaculate and peaceful and Jan King a delight to visit with. When we were there she was involved with hosting a regional fall barn fest on her farm and very busy with those activities. But she made time for me and my husband to chat with us and even brought over a bowl of just-picked apples and homemade bread pudding. She is just the dearest lady and her farm is a historic jewel. If I didn't live so far away, I'd be back in a heartbeat for another visit.
