What an absolutely gorgeous course. Tons of water. Lots of trees. Flat areas. Some hills. And it's 18 holes. Super impressed. And other people I've talked with have said the same thing. A beautiful course with some really good challenges.

Very solid course. Great layout. Back nine is tight and requires you to hit some shots. Greens are great condition but a little soft. I imagine if they threw sand on it for a year or two and firmed them up things would get even harder there. Definitely worth playing.

I'm really torn on this review. Although short staffed, employees were friendly and helpful. No problems there. $40 bucks for 18 holes with a cart on a weekday afternoon is reasonable-ish. Played solo, and was in a hurry. Decent layout. Front nine is pretty open and not overly long. The back nine is tight (tree lined) and quite a bit longer.
Now the troubles... Strike 1 - I know there has been no rain in the area in some time, but I'm pretty sure I've never played a more baked out course. No fairway grass or rough to speak of. Literal hard pan. The green complexes were well maintained and in good shape, but that brings me to... Strike 2 - Mid day watering caught me on hole number 7 or 8. Played a few holes through the sprinklers, but after they turned off, all the greens, surrounds and bunkers were soaked. Like squishy wet with standing water. I know a course needs to be watered, but I feel like they could have timed it a little better. I was the only person on the course, until... Strike 3 - A few members jumped right in front of me on the back nine. I think I was on number 12, and a guy just appeared out of no where. It happened again on number 17. Just kinda weird.
I drive this route going to Springfield from far southern Illinois and have noticed the course before. Thought I'd give it a try. In hindsight, I would probably go somewhere else. I enjoyed the layout, but the conditions left a lot to be desired.

One of my favorite local tracks! The back nine is very challenging and fun! I will definitely be playing here often.

Very well designed and maintained course. Modern cub house with restaurant. Driving range with pitching area, and practice putting greens. Reasonable rates, and friendly staff. Easy on off I-55 near Route 66.

The course and range are ok. If you're only looking for astetcis then you'll be satisfied with this run of the mill golf course. If what you want is a welcoming atmosphere that feels homie, there are other courses in the area?

Love this course. Very challenging. The changes in elevation are breathtaking. Can't wait to go back. Priced fair for the type of course you are stepping on to. If you want great scenery while golfing go here

Overall the golf course was nice. However, my poor rating is due to the groundskeeper, Terry. Me and two other dads had coached our kids in baseball since they were little, but now they’re grown with 2 boys in college and 1 in the Navy. All were back home this week so we decided to get together and enjoy a round of golf. We called Timber Lakes and informed them we have 6 people wanting to play together as a scramble and were advise that wouldn’t be an issue. We even booked two tee times to allow that.

When we arrived at the clubhouse this morning the person working even acknowledged we were the group of six and sent us on our way. Well, by the 3rd hole Terry came out saying we were not allowed to golf 6 at a time and needed to split our group up to 2 and 4, as they don’t allow groups of 3 to golf. This made no sense as the group of people behind us had 3 people. Even when we told him it was approved and we had called in advance to confirm that, he insisted it wasn’t allowed. So as not to cause a scene, we complied and convinced Terry to allow us to split into two groups of 3 (dads and boys), but he proceeded to take away one of the golf carts we had. By him doing this, it meant someone had to walk the course. This made no sense, as all 6 of us paid for the greens fee, along with the cart rental fee. However, Terry kept insisting that we could not have 1 person in a cart as it costs money to operate and maintain them. Yet again, later we saw a group of just two people, each driving a cart by themselves.

As we continued our day golfing separately, we ended up missing time joking and trashing talking with our boys. Terry even seemed to make it a point to stop our boys multiple times to harass them. He would say he’s not trying to bother them, as he wants them to have a good time, but was always lurking.

It’s sad that because of the way this was handled by Terry, we missed time bonding with our boys who are only getting older. The whole point of us going to Timber Lakes to golf was because they told us it wouldn’t have been an issue. I liked the course; however, I don’t think that any of us will returning due to this. Some may say it’s not fair to judge the course for his actions, but Terry works for the course so he represents them.
