Extremely friendly host (with top tier restaurant recommendations).
The room (and the house as a whole) is amazing. This is perhaps the first and only time that I have been awed by how beautiful a stay is (comfort is way out of the question). I would shill the living daylight out of everything about this place. Paul is a nice guy

My husband and I needed a place to stay to pick up our son. I am a flight attendant and grow weary of brand name hotels. The Train Inn was the perfect alternative. Better than I ever could have hoped for! The space is very warm, inviting and very comfortable. It is also filled with history. The guest host Marion was magnificent! She was friendly and a joy to talk to. The breakfast was fantastic! Best lodging breakfast I’ve ever had. She even made me German style soft boiled eggs, which were wonderful! Marion was not only a pleasure to talk to, but she gave us lots of privacy and space as well. Highly recommend, The Train Inn.

My husband and were traveling for a somewhat distressing purpose and the Train Inn gave us the recharge that was needed to take on the day. It was the perfect alternative to a generic hotel, at a better rate! The space is very warm, inviting and very comfortable. It is also filled with history. The guest host Marion was magnificent! She was friendly and a joy to talk to. The breakfast was fantastic! Best lodging breakfast I’ve ever had. The blueberry pancakes were seriously the best I’ve ever had. She even made me German style soft boiled eggs, which were wonderful! Marion was not only a pleasure to talk to, but she gave us lots of privacy as well. Highly recommend the Train Inn for any type of travel.

Stayed here for a night as I passed through town on a tour of the area. Paul and this property are both fantastic. It's meticulously clean, very tastefully decorated, and the bed & bedding (I stayed in the New Orleans room) was perfect. If you're headed toward downtown Carbondale at night during your stay, its a short brisk walk. And the breakfast: phenomenal! I can see why this B&B had noting but great reviews on Trip Adv. After experiencing this level of hospitality, I'd never stay at a chain hotel when visiting Carbondale. I'll definitely be back again.

I enjoyed my stay at the Train Inn. Paul was a gracious host, and served up the best French toast I have ever eaten! The New Orleans room was cozy and comfortable, just right for one person. Paul takes a lot of pride in the house and its restoration, and I really loved the eclectic decor. Wonderful change of pace from a stale bland hotel room. Thanks!

I was fortunately enough to stay at the Train Inn from the 29th-31st of July and it was one of the best B & B experiences I've ever had!!! The Train Inn's location is perfect for those who are looking to have easy access to campus or to re-live campus life (like in my case) if only for a weekend. I went down for a friend's wedding and had such a nice stay with Paul and Teresa. Both were very warm, friendly and accommodating. Paul is an AMAZING cook and both served me a delicious gourmet breakfast/brunch each morning. The house is beautiful and quite a treasure and they even had a hot tub I could use!! Thank you so much Paul and Teresa, you gave me a weekend of nostalgia I will never forget!!

We took a mini-vacation to Southern Illinois wine country and stayed at the Train Inn from April 14 to 17. The Train Inn was perfect for our get-away. It's on a quiet street on the edge of campus. The Carbondale Room at the inn is a large upstairs suite, very private and quiet, with a king bed just as comfortable as ours at home. Everything in the room was squeaky-clean, just like you would expect! ||||Paul and Theresa made us a hearty breakfast every morning usually with fruits organic vegetables, meats and eggs. The quiche was particularly delicious. The weather was a little rainy our first day and not suitable for hiking, so Paul suggested several interesting things to do on Campus. We had never seen glass-blowing before and were intrigued to watch instructors and students blowing decorative decanters. We never would have found this without Paul's guidance.||||We highly recommend staying at the Train Inn. We have stayed at 2 other B&B's in the Carbondale area and this is by far the best. It is everything you would want at a B&B!||||RicknPeg M.

Came to see my son's concert with my sister. Paul and Teresa were very informative and helpful. We had time to kill during his classes the next day, and they pointed us to some perfect spots. We stayed in the Carbondale room. The bed was firm and comfortable, breakfast was tasty. Great conversation. You can tell much thought was put into the restoration of the original decor. Beautiful.
