The Hitching Post accommodated my nephews large wedding and reception over the weekend.
The owners had done an amazing job setting the venue up for us. Communication was great and always made themselves available in a timely manner. They are really nice and friendly.
I really enjoyed the entire experience.
I also rented cabin #4. These cabins reminded me of the movie Dirty Dancing. The cabin is clean and very well stocked with everything you may need to start you off. I was impressed with the thoughtfulness of a guests stay.

My wife took me on a great weekend Shale Lake Winery! We stayed in the boathouse. I loved everything about it. We wanted to relax, and we relaxed. The Winery itself was just up the hill. Wine was good. Food was good. Friendly cat walking around. The owners were super nice, attentive to any needs, and we can't wait to go back!

We absolutely love this place!!
My wife and I have stayed at the cottages and cabins for our anniversary the last three years and just booked for this year. It’s a beautiful getaway and the owners are so nice. The cottage and cabins we stayed in are all very well maintained and clean and comfortable. The winery and tasting room are nice and the wine is great. We recommend it to friends all the time.

Came here on our drive home from st louis to Chicago and it was incredible! Had a few glasses of Eleventh hour, blueberry and rose and ended up buying a bottle of blueberry and eleventh hour. We also got the turkey panini and Italian beef and they were 10/10. Such a great vibe and highly recommend if you're passing through the area!

This winery is my new favorite place to go!! The cottages are amazing!! So cute and full of everything you would need. Super clean with very comfy beds. The view is awesome and the horses are so relaxing! The staff and the food are top notch! Great get away to refuel and recharge!!

I love this place. I have come the past two years for family reunion and the owners are so nice and accommodating. I travel with my dogs and they allow them and even have beds and treats available. The owner also came to my aid when I locked my dogs in the car accidentally with it running. They saved us that day. The winery has delicious food and the most amazing sangria. I love this place and will always return and recomend it

We've been coming to Shale Lake for a few years and it's absolutely our favorite winery. We have been to several other popular wineries in the area and nothing compares to the laid back atmosphere of Shale Lake. The wine and food are delicious (our favorites are the berry sangria and the pig tail bruschetta!) We stayed at the Boathouse for our wedding night and it was the cutest, most relaxing floating cabin. Waking up to the water outside our door (literally) was such a great start to our married life!
