I was wandering along in San Francisco on my way to visit the bookbinder museum when I met the owner of The Box SF, Mark. When I told him I was interested in books and other historical items, he graciously invited me to enter his shop.

The outside is discrete and belies how magical the inside space truly is. When you enter, you're immediately blown away by the vintage art and artifacts everywhere. Mark and his assistant, Israel, gave me a mini-tour and explained how the shop specializes in ephemera, which refers to items that were designed for short-term use (advertising prints, perfume bottles, soap labels, etc).

The shop contains items from the mid-1800s to the early-1900s from around the world. Everything is in great condition and attests to the craftsmanship of earlier time periods. What was supposed to be a quick 20-30 minute visit turned into a 2-hour visit.

Everywhere you turn, there's something new to take in. I love antique and thrift stores, yet I have never encountered anything as unique as The Box. I found some souvenirs to take home with me and even the wrapping paper was this cool, historical print.

The Box is a treasure trove for people who love vintage, antique, or novel artifacts. If that's your style, you have to visit.

What a wonderful place! One could spend hours in the antique ephemera and paper store. There are so many beautiful items to admire. Everything is well organized and the whole store is spotless. The event and meeting rooms are warm and inviting with stunning furniture. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit.

I could have spent hours at The Box! Amazing collection of antiques ephemera, not just prints but lots of little surprises too. Mark was friendly and introduced us to his collection. I got a beautiful old French soap packaging that I cant wait to frame. The space is inviting and warm. I’m so glad SF has this gem.

Our organization hosted a half day professional gathering at the BOX in the fall. From first contact to clean up after the event, Melanie was so helpful and communicative. Really cool antique store that is also a bit of a museum! Their specialty is antique printed material and they also have several 1800s printing presses on display. There are endless shelves and little drawers full of material to browse. Definitely worth a visit!

The shop is beautiful and full of fascinating little and not so little antiques. I feel like I could spend hours going through all the small things with the curiosity and imagination of the child inside me. Mark, the owner, has a passion for the place that elevates the experience of being inside there. The Box SF lives and breathes stories from many pasts, and I absolutely recommend going there.

The Box was a beautiful atmosphere to host our intimate wedding with 60 guests. The venue itself needs very little as it is already a warm/inviting space. The venue coordinator, Melanie, was an absolute dream to work with. She promptly answered questions, facilitated walk throughs, and coordinated with our vendors seamlessly. Guests quickly fell in love with the romantic space.
