We have been coming to Starved Rock for years but this is the 1st time we actually stayed at the lodge. It was great! The rooms have a cabin feel, comfortable bed and little sitting area to play games/ have meals. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. We came during very cold weather so the hot tub and saunas were a plus! Loved that there were hiking trails right outside the lodge. We had breakfast and dinner at the main dinning hall and both meals were great. We got to sit by the lit fire very romantic. The Starved rock ale 🍺 was delicious! Definitely will be returning.

I’m not sure how this lodge got a 3-star rating. Maybe the amenities? We were pretty disappointed. We didn’t try the pool - maybe that was ok.||General room decor: very dated, needing a full paint job and an update of things like electrical outlets/heater/a/c unit, etc. The light switch plates looked decades old, and there were cracks in the edges of the paint (wear and tear). It just felt old.||Bathroom/shower: again, very dated. Toilet paper holder was on door as it was so cramped. Both rooms only contained containers of hand soap, and shampoo and body wash in the shower. There was no conditioner (I consider this to be very basic.) Towels were tiny and thin and scratchy (they wrapped around my side 4 tween, not around me)||Bed: sprung mattress (obviously not new, though not sinking in the middle - we developed slightly sore backs), cheap uncomfortable pillows, and sheets that didn’t fit the bed. The king size bed had queen sized sheets that came off on the night (gross) and the double bed had queen sized sheets (floppy but not gross at least).||Food: we only ate in the snack bar. It was probably the worst food I’ve ever bought. Child had peanut butter and jelly, and bread was close to stale (very very dry) and had a glob of what tasted like very cheap peanut butter) and (apricot?) jam which was ok but not much. The peanut butter and jam covered maybe 3/4 of the bread. I mean, how do you get pb&j wrong The peanut butter fudge tasted like sugar-flavored wax, though the chocolate fudge was a bit better. After the pb&j we didn’t dare try any more expensive food. ||Maybe this was 3 stars in the 1990s, but not any more! Advice to hotel - consider updating your towels and sheets/pillows and adding conditioner to the showers at the very least. Also, send some secret shoppers in to try your food in your snack bar and respond to feedback. I appreciate that updates are expensive, but you need to get the fundamentals right. If you’re going to charge $165 a night for a hotel, you need to provide a minimum decent service…

My husband and I stayed for an extended weekend! We hiked trails, ate at the restaurant, enjoyed drinks at the bar, and cuddled in our room! What a great stay! We encountered amazing service at check in and check out. The staff in the bar made amazing drinks and appeased my husband with sports on the tv! The food and service were nothing short of wonderful! Our room was clean and ready when we arrived and cozy as expected for this type of resort! What a great getaway from the hustle and grind of city life! Will be visiting again In the summer!

While rustic is nice, outdated and poorly maintained is not acceptable. We booked three rooms. One was larger yet we were charged the same price for all three. The front desk had no interest in addressing this issue or being accommodating. ||One room was supposed to have a cot, and instead of putting it in the larger room, they shoved it into one of the smaller rooms, making it impossible to get into the room. ||My bedside lamp did not work, and there was only one outlet accessible. Of the four outlets in the plate, only one didn’t make sparks when you plugged in a device. Also, the lighting in the room was abysmal. If you weren’t in the bathroom or accessing daylight from the window, you could barely see.||Finally, there was a large metal piece protruding from the base of the bed. If you weren’t looking for it, you could really injure your leg or foot if you bumped into it. ||Some of the staff in the restaurant were extremely nice and some didn’t seem to care at all about decent customer service.||We were there for a family wedding and that was the only bright spot of our stay. The wedding venue is beautiful and the staff working the wedding did an excellent job.||Overall, we were incredibly disappointed and wouldn’t recommend returning.

We had a lovely fall weekend here; the staff was very kind and accommodating. This location is just far enough from Chicago to make it truly feel like a getaway. We took a nice hike, lots to do in the area. The Sunday brunch was awesome, so many delicious options and a great value. A very charming place!

We visited the lodge over the holidays with our family from all over the US. It was such a wonderful experience. The location was perfect for all our families needs. The staff went above and beyond with helping us with some special requests. We ate most of our meals at the restaurant and the food was outstanding. This may be our new family tradition for the holidays. Can’t wait to visit in the summer time as well.

Went to the Still Austin Whiskey Co and Starved Rock Tasting, where they partnered with Nick from Barrel Society, what a delight!!! Debbie was our server and she was so kind, attentive and warm. What a joy, what a night! Also, hype up Nick from Barrel!!! Well informed, son of a fun gun. What a great presentation!

Starved Rock Lodge whisks you off into an atmosphere of the past, which is combined with the present. It's charming. Rooms offer modern technology woven with historical decor. The restaurant food is delicious. Parking is convenient, and there's an indoor pool / hot tub area. Many activities and tours are available. Sign up is quick. Two huge fireplaces, a boutique, and a gift store add to the appeal of the lodge.
