Poor experience from the start. We checked in late in the day and when we arrived at our room, it had not been cleaned. After a long wait at the front desk, we were assigned another room that turned out to be occupied! Finally got into another room that was a downgrade from what we reserved and paid for. The front desk clerk was unempowered to do anything about adjusting our rate but gave us contact details for the GM who would return a few days later. After contacting her, we received no satisfaction (despite an offer of 2500 points which we never received). ||The following day, after a long day out playing golf, we returned to our room that had not been cleaned. We were then informed that housekeeping doesn’t clean rooms on the weekend (first we were told this). So we requested they deliver some fresh towels. They would provide them to us but we had to come downstairs to pick them up. No apology for the inconvience or empathy for putting us out. Just an attitude; the clear (unsaid) message was that this was our problem and not theirs.

The staff were incredible! The washer didn’t work so the front desk washed a load for us in their washers. When we checked out and let them know the negatives, they offered extra points to the account. Overall good stay. The room was warm and the thermostat turned off in the middle of the night and the room was 76 degrees when I woke up. The front desk button on the phone was broke and one of the outlets didn’t work. The bathroom smelled weird but was clean. The couch had some stains on it.

The location of this hotel is perfect if you enjoy being able to move around town on foot and you enjoy a quiet stay. I have stayed at this property on two other occasions, but this time I was very disappointed with my visit. I stayed two nights ( May 17- 19) . On the night I checked in, I called down to the front desk to report that there was a large roach in the room that I could not reach in order to kill. The lady at the front desk said she would notify maintenance so they could come to spray and they were never dispatched to come by my room. No one came by the room to spray until the next day when I physically went to the front desk around noon to get a new room key. The second day of my trip I found yet another roach in my room. A roach a day is unacceptable. As much as I love this property and its location I'll be staying somewhere else next time I am in town

I loved this trip to Montgomery (the city is great!) and normally like Marriott properties, but stay far away from this one. I had a three night stay and my room wasn’t cleaned once. The trash was never taken out, nor was the bed made, nor was the bathroom straightened or towels changed. I have never seen anything like it. I thought after the first day it would be cleaned but I was wrong. To top it off I had to kill a big roach in the bathroom on my final night. Maybe it might help if they emptied the trash from the take out that I had. What is weird is that I know that someone entered the room because things were moved but apparently it wasn’t so they could clean or bring fresh towels. This was in addition to the there being a big stain on the carper and the shower door being broken. I will say that the lobby and the breakfast were nice—thus the reason that I am giving it 2 stars. Luckily I was kept away from the hotel all day because of a conference so I didn’t really have to spend that much time in the room except to sleep. If this was not a business trip, I would never stay here with my own money. Please choose any other property —particularly the Renaissance down the street.

Avoid This Hotel at All Costs—Systemic Failures and Unethical Practices

I stayed at this hotel for three weeks, and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. Here's a breakdown of the issues that made this stay so disappointing:

1. Unsafe and Neglected Facilities:

Daily cold showers due to the hotel’s inability to meet hot water demand during full occupancy.

Bathroom mold and water damage caused by a leaking shower, which created large puddles beyond the bathmat. I even slipped on the wet tiles—a serious safety hazard.

2. Inconsistent Housekeeping: Housekeeping was promised every other day, but it only happened three times during my entire stay, and only after I requested service each time. Linens were left untouched, the curtains had visible stains, and the room was never vacuumed—completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming high standards.

3. Laundry Service: The laundry room was out of order, and when I asked the front desk about using the send out laundry service, I was told it was unavailable because the hotel hadn’t paid the company. This raises ethical concerns about guests potentially being charged for services that don’t exist.

4. Valet Service Disaster and Billing Issues:

The valet service damaged my rental car without informing me.

Attempts to adjust my valet payment led to overcharges of several hundred dollars, and the hotel and valet team have ignored all attempts to resolve the issue.

Despite checking out early, I was still charged for the unused night. These charges remain unresolved, and calls to address them go unanswered.

The consistent lack of accountability, service failures, and mishandling of guest money reflect deeper ethical and operational issues at this hotel. I’ve filed complaints with the BBB and Marriott and will be urging my employer to remove this property from its approved lodging list.

Avoid this hotel at all costs.

I frequently travel for business and consistently stay at Marriott properties, but my experience at the SpringHill Suites in Montgomery was by far the worst I’ve had.

Before my stay, I called the hotel to inform them that my travel plans had changed, but I would still be arriving and that I was not a no-show. The woman I spoke with was friendly and told me she would “check me in now” so there wouldn’t be any issues when I arrived. Unfortunately, she never followed through. When I arrived, my reservation had been canceled and the hotel was fully booked.

While mistakes happen, it was the handling of the situation that truly disappointed me. Instead of helping me find a solution, the three women at the front desk focused more on figuring out who had taken my original call and made the mistake than actually assisting me. Despite showing proof of the call, including the hotel’s number and a 5 minute call, they suggested I call reservations to see if they remembered speaking with me. What? They named two (non marriott) hotels that had rooms available, but gave no information about where they were in relation to their hotel.

So, I took my bags and walked across the street to the Embassy Suites. Even though they were nearly full, their team made every effort to accommodate me and treated me with professionalism and respect.

Needless to say, despite coming to Alabama frequently for work, I won’t be returning to the SpringHill Suites.

What a space! Location, location, location. Adored the vibe- restored former dry goods warehouse that has 25’ wooden ceilings in guest rooms. Rooms are so well designed and ROOMY. Had view of Riverwalk with oversized windows. Staff was responsive and welcoming. Extremely guest-oriented. Breakfast was fresh and healthy and well presented. Crustless quiche was outstanding! Even the coffee was good. Would return without question

I’ve had positive experiences at this hotel before, but not my last one. My last one was terrible. They canceled my room reservation without notifying me beforehand when I was in town for a trade show for work. I had booked the room 2 months prior. They canceled it the day of the show without even giving me a heads up. When I went into the hotel to speak with them about it they were the epitome of unhelpful and inhospitable. No other hotels available due to high demand. Got left out to dry. Can’t believe this staff pretends to be in a hospitality business. Complete joke.
