The hotel is clean and appears as I've come to expect from a Marriott. I really only have 2 primary concerns that have seriously impacted my stay and will likely result in choosing a Hilton next time I travel.

1st, the parking. I understand that parking is an issue in a city the size of Chicago. However, what I don't understand is the necessity to charge $30 dollars a night to park in a lot that is on the hotel property. If i need 25 hours of parking, it is over $60. It is extortion and should be illegal. Additionally, the hotel makes it very clear with signage plastered around the property that they are not responsible for anything that happens to my vehicle while it is in the lot.

Now, let's talk about the bed. This was the single hardest and most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. I spent almost 25 years sleeping in some pretty uncomfortable places with the US Army, but few compare to that bed. I think it may actually have a piece of plywood in it.

Either way, I have spent about 25k at Marriott hotels over the last 5 years, but I think it is time for a change. The Springhill Suites Chicago O'Hara made the decision pretty simple.

This is one of my top hotels. While the rooms themselves are pretty standard, the staff is what sets this hotel above the rest. Everyone from the shuttle drivers, to the front desk staff, to housekeeping are absolutely wonderful. They’re so engaging with guests and willing to go well out of their way to make the stay a pleasant one. I stay at this property quite often, and Michelle at the front desk even remembers my name. Little things like that make being away from home a little easier. This last stay I had, there was even a handwritten thank you note with my name in it left in the room for me when I checked in! This hotel is one of the best!

Easy to get to and airport shuttle is convenient. They were very polite and helpful in canceling our second night when our return flight was cancelled. Don’t think they handled my parksleepfly reservation properly and I ended up paying more than I should’ve. Wish they had a restaurant, or at least a bar.

Pros: Front desk/reception was great, as a Marriott rewards member and Bonvoy credit card holder (highly recommend both), they waived the parking fee for me; The water in the pool in the basement was warm; all 6 (2 adults, 4 kids) could stay in one room- 2 beds and sofa sleeper; great view from the picture window of local firework displays; when we needed a can opener they lent us one; food at the breakfast buffet was sufficient but did not include gluten free products; candy and cookies were available for free at the front desk for guests; nice fitness room- well equipped; room was clean; easy check in and check out; gave us a later than normal checkout; TV has many stations available; container available for products that can be recycled- nice to see a hotel do this; Room was quiet for the most part- could hear the traffic from the expressway but could not hear guests above, below, next door or in the hallway; has an airport shuttle,|Cons: Very small kitchenette with a mini microwave, mini refrigerator, sink, mini coffee pot-no table only a desk with 1 desk chair- insufficient for 6 people (should have some folding chairs in the closet); tub surround was cracked (potential for future mold on the wall behind it- this should have been noticed by housekeeping); no hot tub; cupboards in kitchenette were bare- no plates, cups, glasses, silverware, etc.; when we used the pool there were 25 other people also using the pool, and no pool towels- there was a container filled with used ones, but no clean ones ( in fairness, when brought to the attention of the front desk, it was resolved); sofa sleeper was very uncomfortable- very thin mattress and you could feel the bars and springs each time you moved (recommend getting 2 adjoining rooms with more than 4 guests); needed more blankets and towels than what was provided for 6 (when requested, they were sent to our room immediately). Overall, a satisfactory stay.

This is a great option if you want to save and still be well located.
This hotel provides free shuttle to/from the airport.
Train station is just less than 10 minutes walk, and will take you to downtown Chicago in about 30 minutes.

Room is spacious and cozy. It’s like a loft, you have a small kitchen with sink, microwave and frigobar.
There is a living area with a good sofa and small table.

Bed is big and comfortable. Shower is hot enough and very good water flow.
Housekeeping is every other day.

Service is ok, front desk staff are in a bad mood all the time, but breakfast staff are always smiling and trying to help.

Breakfast is very good: they offer coffee, orange and apple juice, eggs, bacon/hamburger/sausage (one option only, depends if the day). Good selection of cereals, buns, milk and yogurt. During weekends they also have waffles!

They offer free water filter and coffee in the lobby during all time.

Overall we had a good time here.

My stay was from 3/24 to 3/27 from day one there where kids running at all times through the whole hotel. Also kids where unsupervised at the pool. When I told the manager he offer to move me from room instead of removing the problematic people. Also towels in pool area where always low in stock. The $32 parking nightly fee is ridiculous also. Place is clean but front desk is not good.
