This place is the ish. It's really lively with all the indoor and outdoor seating. Great for eating alone or with large groups. The portion sizes are great. Once you take a bite, you'll realize why the Bestest Seller is the bestest seller. Service is excellent, could not be friendlier. Definitely coming back.

Got breakfast here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am. Definitely kid friendly, and the staff are super sweet. We got our food quickly, and it came out as it was made which is always a benefits when you have kids. The place is cute, LGBTQIA friendly, pro-Palestine, incredible.

The food… very good, but I think I liked the vibe more. I got the breakfast burrito with smoked bacon, I think I wanted less egg more burrito ingredients like beans, salsa, something along those lines. It was more of a breakfast wrap. But a VeryVery good breakfast wrap. My partner got a Shakshouka breakfast sandwich which looked and tasted great. Lots of flavor is what I am told.

My kiddo got a donut, tempered hot cocoa and loved it all.

Great New Orleans style coffee, wonderful environment.

I came in to try the food to see if this would work as a catering option for our group that has a lot of special dietary needs (allergy friendly, vegan, gluten free.)

I am not vegan, nor do my allergies include gluten, but on recommendation of the owner, Teeny, I tried the breakfast hash. SOOOOO GOOOD!!!! Everything is so favorful and well seasoned with a great balance of spice.

The gluten-free focaccia was super light and fluffy, with vegan butter that was so tasty, I would never have known I was eating vegan/gluten free.

The atmosphere is warm and friendly and super inclusive. This local small business is eco-friendly and has an awesome vibe. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

One note, they are a victim of their own success, line can stretch out the door and they are also taking online orders, so just setting expectations don't be in a hurry. Don't get me wrong, staff is all super friendly and helpful just running at around 300% capacity on a Saturday morning 😉

5 stars for the lox bagel!

10 stars (if it were possible to do) for the biscuits and gravy. Love the option with the chicken sausage gravy. Smack Dab is MVP for even making this an option. Omfg. Light, savory, and a hint of sweetness.

Service is always friendly and effective. Can’t ask for more.

Smack Dab Sandwich Shop – Good, but Not Smack-Dab-Tastic

First off, we had no clue this was a full-blown brunch spot, so that was a pleasant surprise. Less pleasant? The price tag. Dropping $40 on two sandwiches and a cappuccino in Rogers Park felt… ambitious. Yes, we know it's bird flu season, but that markup is flying a little too high.
We tried The Best Seller, which, ironically, wasn’t the best. The biscuit wasn’t all that great, and for the price, let’s just say I expected something a bit more… substantial. Then came the Breakfast BLT, which had all the right elements—crispy bacon, a brioche bun, a fancy tomato jam situation—but still didn’t quite justify the cost, especially when so many other spots offer similar (or better) sandwiches for less.
Now, the real kicker: I impulsively grabbed a tiramisu on the way out. Should’ve known better. What I got was a soggy, sugar-bombed, buttery creation that had absolutely no business calling itself tiramisu. Somewhere in Italy, a pastry chef shed a single tear.
On the bright side, service was genuinely great—friendly, welcoming, no complaints there. But overall? Decent food, questionable value, and a dessert that made me rethink my life choices.

We could do a better job cooking sunny eggs for breakfast hash and also cut the vegan sausage and add it into the breakfast mix hash!! Just saying !! Kitchen needs to take there time and cook these eggs 🍳 right

Life-changing breakfast sandwiches on some of the best biscuits and cornbread I’ve ever had.

Smack Dab is one of my favorite restaurants—not simply among Chicago eateries or breakfast spots, but one of my favorites of all time, period. Even during a two-year period when I lived outside of Chicago due to work, I refused to unsubscribe from Smack Dab’s email newsletter because I wanted to stay apprised of their inevitable success. Now that I’m back in the city, I’ve finally been able to try their pizza offerings, which are—unsurprisingly—just as good as their breakfast. The Peachy Keen pizza was out of this world. Airy, crispy crust with perfectly balanced salty/sweet bites. The peaches were wonderfully mellow and not overpowering. So freaking good.

All of this is to say nothing of the owners’ sincere care for and investment in their staff, this community, and our world. I hope they thrive, always, and that everyone who works here has sweet dreams each and every night.
