Alaska in the summer is expensive. I was trying to find a reasonable place to stay for two nights in Sitka prior to leaving on a cruise. ||At first glance, it looked ok (see photo). But, then I began to poke around. My room was on the first floor. Overlooking a narrow alleyway where employees smoked. This meant that the curtains had to be kept drawn. It was dark and felt like a cave. I was also on a corridor that lead to the restaurant so there was lots of traffic in the hall until past 10 pm. ||Many things were broken including a window that came apart when I tried to open it and a sink faucet that sprayed water. The only outlets that were usable were behind the fridge and behind the two beds so I ended up moving furniture to get to one to use. There were cover plates on the other outlets. The shower had items left over from the previous person and someone had tried to go high end using large stones in the shower on the floor, but they just ended up hurting my feet. ||On the plus side, there was a full sized fridge. This felt like a room that had been repurposed from something else. Perhaps a studio apartment that had an extra bed put into it for the summer season? ||When I brought up issues to the folks at the front desk, they offered no apologies and simply said thank you for letting them know. ||While it had advertised breakfast, they said under new management they were no longer serving that. They had breakfast sandwiches you could buy in a small fridge, but I was dubious and didn't risk it. An inquiry as to where to get breakfast drew a blank stare. I found the backdoor cafe on my own. ||For budget reasons if you need to stay here, I would definitely request a room not on the first floor. ||It is located downtown and a 2 minute walk from the main street so easy access that way.

Wish I could recommend this hotel, but I cannot. It is almost impossible to reach them on the phone, and they do not respond to emails. The room was small and dingy, carpet was old and yucky, no stopper in the sink etc. I tried to open the door to my room and found that it was already occupied. Our travel companions had to ask for a new room because of a terrible odor. After I left I was charged for my stay on the card I left for incidentals although I had prepaid for the stay with Expedia. Multiple attempts to reach them were unsuccessful via phone and email. Eventually I did reach them and the charge was reversed. For over $300 /night I did expect a clean room and better service.

I have mixed reviews about our stay. Our room was very dated with a tiny bathroom and no space to put anything. It was clean but the carpet was incredibly worn. We did have a beautiful view of the water. The desk staff was neither friendly nor unfriendly, just there. The hotel is in easy walking distance to most things and there is a city shuttle nearby which is a huge plus. The location of the hotel is right behind a bar which is great in some ways as we did enjoy Ernies, but when you are trying to sleep at two a.m and Nicki Minaj is blasting in the alley while people are screaming and yelling it becomes somewhat annoying. That is not the hotels fault though. Sadly I had to keep my windows open because it was warm. I don't expect Alaska to have air conditioning. They did provide a fan which was wonderful. I didn't love or hate my experience at this hotel. I would probably give it another shot if I ever make it back to Sitka.

My family and I were in Sitka for a few days and stayed at the Sitka hotel. Overall we had a good experience, everyone being very friendly and quick if we had any additional needs. They offered free tea and coffee all day as well as having few snack items for purchase. Just outside the hotel there are a couple food trucks that are open later in case you get a little hungry at night!

Room wasn't ready until hours after check-in. When we finally we able to check-in, the room had dirty dishes and towels from the previous guest. On our final day we went to get breakfast (before check-out) and returned to find housekeeping rooting through our belongings (even though the do not disturb sign was on the door). Staff are either unwilling or unable to answer questions or assist with basic requests...like getting the last guest's dirty towels replaced with clean ones.

Not very impressive for the price. But the location was good. Desk staff were also very unimpressive. I have to think that there are many other better options in Sitka. They require at least 200 words so I guess I will just ramble on until I hit that number. Did I mention that there was a nice location very close to the main downtown district and what used to be the Baranoff castle which I was very interested in seeing, after reading James Michener‘s Alaska

Clean, newer bathroom, dated bedroom, central location, NO air conditioner, but window opens (no screens). One dresser, safe available, Italian hotel associated with the hotel. Elevator and stairs, not as convenient for those with limited mobility. Having them rotate mattresses would help, as would ceiling fans. I'd stay here again; the location is too convenient.
