The Shrine Guesthouse has been closed for several years as a hotel. It is now used exclusively for retreatants' housing.

Very happy the hotel is at least partially open for guests. Still a beautiful place for peaceful prayer and contemplation. Prayed the Stations of the Cross this afternoon. Wonderful weather to be outside and spend some time with Our Lord.

Ir was a good, confortable place to stay, The room was big enough. The shower stall was very small, but the bathroom was nice otherwise. The staff was helpful, though the front desk closed at 8 PM. The breakfast was very good, complete with a waffle maker. The biggest problem we had were the room keys. I was stuck outside the guesthouse for about 10 minutes, until I found a different entrance that took my room key. I got a new room key and did just better enough the rest of the way on our one night stay

Prior to staying at this hotel I felt like I had fallen from hospitality grace. Having a career in hospitality I've stayed at all types of hotels. This one provides you with a quiet, clean and safe environment. If you love to walk, you can get 10K steps in just exploring the campus grounds. Yes, it is dated and it takes you back to the 80's but I must say the customer service is superior. Every time I visit my family I will return to the GEM hidden away by the beautiful landscape. The hotel could step their game up by offering room service with a limited menu.

We stayed here for one night on a return trip from Arkansas to Indianapolis as it was a good halfway mark and we wanted to visit the Shrine while we were here.||It is located on IL HWY 15 just off I-255 and was very convenient to get to.||The room was clean, and comfortable. They offered a nice continental breakfast and ||wi-fi access in our room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds are lovely and spacious for walking and there is a wonderful playground for any children who might be traveling with you. Right across the street is an authentic German Restaurant with entertainment and a nice menu. Stay here and you will be especially "blessed" :):)

The grounds the hotel is on are absolutely beautiful. The staff were all very kind and helpful. Unfortunately, that's about the only good. The free breakfast is pretty sad, but I don't expect much from free hotel breakfast. What I do expect is the thing we're actually paying for to be nice, the room itself. Sadly, our experience wasn't very positive. The hotel on the other hand probably hasn't been updated in 20+years. There are cobwebs and dust on the walls. The carpet is old and stained. The beds are hard as a rock, the pillows were basically thin rectangular foam, and the sheets were scratchy. The air is also very humid in the rooms. Our towels always felt wet. It wasn't a very good experience and for the price you can definitely get something better.

What a beautiful way to spend a holiday evening. The lights, the displays, the rain why we celebrated. You can find it here in this magnificent venue. I felt we were really celebrating the birth of Jesus going thru this display. If you have not seen it get out and drive thru. |

We were in St Louis for a weekend and my wife loves the going to church here. The grounds are beautiful and they have a really good restaurant and Sunday brunch but the hotel is in need of some major upgrades. The furniture is very outdated and the rooms are in need of some major repairs. The beds are hard as a rock and each room has a 20 inch tube tv for your enjoyment. The bathroom was beat up and I saw mouse poop on the floor. The housekeeper was cleaning the room next to ours early in the morning and she kept slamming the door every time she went in and out so sleeping in was out of the question. There is a very basic continental breakfast with cereal and a couple of doughnut choices. They did have a waffle maker if you want something hot. There was some fruit but it looked terrible. If you want to stay at a hotel right out of the 90's this is your place. The only reason I stay here is my wife loves the grounds and sometimes she needs a little recharging. For $100 a night you can do better.
