Very reasonably priced and conveniently located just off the interstate, this golf course turned campground is a true gem. Lots of open grass areas, woods, ponds, and a walking trail made this place fun to explore for the kids and dogs alike. We didn't use the showers, but the laundry area was very nice and clean. The staff was amazing, was very accomodating and made us feel welcome.

Stayed here with my teardrop trailer over the 2024 Thanksgiving weekend. Open all year!
Very clean and quiet. There was some road noise from the nearby highway but not intrusive.
Very large, clean bathrooms/showers. Super easy checkin.
Spots are pretty level, and have 20, 30, and 50 amp hookups, as well as water. Spots have a fire pit and a table.
Would definitely return.

We’d seen signs for Shawnee Forest Campground (CG) many times as we headed out and back from our St. Louis home base and wanted to check this CG out. We followed our GPS to the clearly marked CG entrance but our GPS showed we still had about a half mile to go. We checked in at the little office and were given the choice of pull through sites with FHUs 12 or 21. We chose site 21. The gravel roads are slightly narrow with some trees but we did not have any issues getting to site 21. The water and electric (50/30/20 AMP) are at the back of the gravel pad. There are two sewer hookups, which was nice. The water pressure was good around 50 psi. Their WiFi was very good. There are mature trees here and there in the CG, so satellite should not be an issue. We got two bars on Verizon. Each of the bath houses have a washer and dryer. Our site was not level and with all the rain we had, there were water puddles at the steps. There are some nice sites in this CG but we were not offered one of the better ones even though there were plenty of sites open in the upper 26 - 50 site area. If we come back, we’ll know where to ask for a site. They have a small lake and two ponds for fishing. There's no formal dog area, but there are paved trails around the large CG area, which made it nice to walk our dogs. We definitely enjoyed our short stay.

This was a beautiful campground! Easy to find just off the Interstate and so beautifully maintained. We had a large pull thru site with a picnic table. The bathhouse/ bathroom was so very well maintained, very clean. The showers were great with wonderful water pressure. We will be sure to stay here again!

Spent a month and a half here and on arrival had no idea how much we would enjoy it. Spacious sites and big rig friendly on the beautiful grounds of a former golf course. The old golf cart paths wind throughout the grounds, through the woods and past a fishing pond. What a cool environment. We are full timers and have never met a more helpful and conscientious manager in Billie. She is amazing. The Shawnee National Forest is a gem. So many great hikes like Garden of the Gods and Giant City. We also kayaked the swamp in the Cypress Wildlife Refuge.

Great campground, one of our favorites!! Bathroom and showers were very clean and great water pressure. Coin laundry, very clean. Andrea was so accommodating and helpful. Billie the host was very friendly and helpful. Loved our site clean pretty level and some shade. A small view of one of the ponds. Great fishing catch and release. Looking forward to coming back and was told the bank on ponds will be bushhogged soon, which will make great bank fishing!!

We called for a one night stay. The host was very friendly& helpful. Our site was clean, spacious & easily accessible. It also had such a nice area to walk our dog with pretty views of the pond. The bathroom/ shower facilities were spotless. We couldn’t have asked for anything better!
