This was one of the best experiences I've had. We reserved two cottages and one room to attend the premiere of our film at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Dominique was so lovely and gracious. Her breakfast options are outstanding and delicious! The cottages are beautiful – truly a home away from home. This is absolutely a place I will return to. Thank you, Dominique for making us feel so welcome!!

We wanted to get away from it all after one of our cats died unexpectedly. It was so hard finding a place we could go with our other two cats, but thankfully we stumble upon this charming place. The room was perfect, with tasteful decor, pretty bathroom tiles and a very comfy bed. We booked the garden room which had a lovely yard where we ate our breakfast daily, which is included! We got delicious croissants both days, cantaloupe and yogurt and yummy plum jam, and my boyfriend got eggs. They even brought it to the room! We felt very pampered and everyone we told about it was so jealous of our stay. The innkeeper is so nice and I loved her cat Peanut, who reminded me a lot of the cat we just lost. Every interaction with the innkeeper and her staff was lovely and pleasant, we would definitely stay again. If you're looking for a cat-friendly stay you can't do better! Even if you don't have cats it's a really beautiful and peaceful retreat and we would definitely recommend it!

We have been coming since 1983. Dominique has been our host for the last 25 years. Her breakfasts are pleasing to the palette and the eye. Our “Garden” room is cozy and spacious. Lots of room to spread out. The weather was friendly as is the town of Santa Barbara.

The Secret Garden is beautiful! The rooms and property are so charming and inviting. Dominique was an amazing host, greeting us with maps and ideas of activities to do in the area. The property is quiet and so close to so many attractions like the mission, State Street, and beach. We even biked to many of them from the property. The beds are so comfy, and the breakfast was amazing! There is plenty of parking on site. I would recommend this bed and breakfast in a heartbeat and definitely plan on staying again!

How often when you go to a fabulous location for vacation (or business) -- like Santa Barbara -- does the place you choose to stay end up being the highlight of your visit? It may very well happen with The Secret Garden. Every aspect of it. The great ROOMS, most of them in cute cottages situated amidst a large fabulous garden behind the classic house, are comfortable and spacious. The FOOD, in the form of a varied, unique European breakfast personally made for you and -- you choose -- delivered to your room, served in the beautiful dining room of the home, or best (in my mind), enjoyed sitting in the middle of the garden out back-- plus wine and snacks at the end of the day -- is nothing short of terrific, always different and delish. The PROPRIETOR, the delightful, knowledgeable French owner for more than 25 years, Dominique, will go out of her way to answer your Santa Barbara questions, show you the antique- and art-filled home if you just ask (beautiful stuff, some of it for sale), and provide whatever else you need.
...all of this making The Secret Garden a perfectly located, intimate, super-comfy, and fun home away from home to top off your stay in Santa Barbara. There's no question! So stop searching and give Dominique a call. (We recently calculated we've been there 10+ times in 20+ years.) It will cap off a great visit, in comfort and style!

We spent a weekend at the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages, and it was awesome. We were in town for the Santa Barbara Film Festival, and the friendly service and those extra little touches really impressed us. Great experience!

We stayed in the garden room. It was more than a little tired. Water didn’t drain in shower, toilet almost overflowed. That said the innkeeper was responsive and called a plumber. We weren’t there long enough to know if it got fixed. One the bright side, the innkeeper is lovely and the breakfast was great. Maybe it was just our room? I don’t really know. I wanted to leave an honest review since I was pretty surprise by the accommodations. We all have different expectations so judge for yourself.
