Lovely place, lovely people! The appointments were quality - and vintage. The feel was, however, not at all stodgy nor pretentious, but like elegance that meets you happily whoever you are.
I really enjoyed talking with Darren and Jillian...although my wife talked with Jill more. I stayed up well past my normal bed time talking with Darren. We went back and forth, but he kept most of the conversation going...he truly has led an interesting life, and I really enjoyed our time there.
But, if that's not your preference, he is always ready to disengage...they are totally focused on your enjoyments during your stay. And since he loves coffee as much as I do, the coffee bar (bars, actually, there's a separate station upstairs for the upstairs guests to enjoy) is always open and well-stocked.
The place is clean, safe, gorgeous, and has a lovely seating area outside of the room we stayed in.
The bed was quite comfortable, and the room just what one would expect and enjoy in such an accommodation.
All in all, we highly recommend The Sassafras Inn. Whatever sort of travel stay one might generally prefer, this is a sweet step into the plain folks place that's anything but plain.
Bring the friendly, and you will find the friendly. You'll love it! We sure did!

The magnolia suite was a luxurious escape during our exploration of Arkansas. Darren is a true local knowledge font and his blueberry muffins are the absolute best! The Inn was recommended by friends and it is everything they described. Wonderful visit.

As a traveling superintendent our jobs take us all over. We had a project here in Mena and Darren and his wife Jillian came through in a very short notice to accommodate a place to stay. This historical home is so welcoming and with the great service received there is no doubt for anyone traveling in the area this is the place to stay. The homemade muffins are fantastic and mouth watering. Even got a special treat with a homemade chocolate cake. Great place and awesome owners made this trip one to remember.

I stayed at the Sassafras Inn for work and it was a very nice stay. The Inn is historic and beautifully restored. It feels like stepping back in time. Darren was a gracious and friendly host and his homemade blueberry muffins were amazing. I highly recommend a visit if your in town.

The muffin man and gingered Baker made my stay amazing! I only got to stay one night I was on a work trip. But they made my week. I would recommend staying here for anyone they truly made it feel like home! I can't wait to come back and stay again with them! Stay there have the most spectacular stay. Beds where comfortable environment was amazing. Weekend get away or for a longer stay I would recommend staying here with these wonderful couple! Try some of there baked goods. I know the muffins the muffin man made me were fantastic. I'm looking forward to having some cake here soon! See you soon!

This is our go to place when we are in the Mena area. The rooms are lovely, comfortable and easy access. The owners are a delight to have conversations with and provide a tremendous amount of information for things to do and places to eat. Then you top that with it’s the home of The Ginger Baker! So you can start and finish your day with homemade deserts and muffins! Do yourself a favor and stay you will definitely make it a favorite!

Had an absolutely fantastic stay here in Mena, Arkansas! The rooms were cozy and charming, making it feel like a home away from home. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable about the local history and shared so many fascinating stories. Plus he makes great muffins hence why he is the muffin man. Highly recommend this hidden gem for anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable stay!
