My husband and I returned to River Rose Inn Bed & Breakfast for the second time, visiting from October 10 - October 13, 2014. We stayed in the Eagle Room on the second floor. The beds are comfortable and the Inn is very clean overall. The Inn has five rooms, each with its own theme. There is a library, two public "sitting" room area's, several fire places in the home, and cable tv in every room/sitting area as well. There is a pool and a hot tub for the summer guests. I love the charm of the old house and its history as well. The house was built in the early 1900's and has a great view of the Ohio River. There is a large magnolia tree in the yard (possibly the oldest in Illinois?).. The grounds are beautifully maintained and made me feel as if I had stepped back in time. || ||The main reason we returned to the River Rose was due to the hospitality of the owners, Sue and Bruce. They greatly impressed us during our stay in 2012, and it was no different this time. Sue and Bruce are wonderful people who go out of their way to make you feel at home and happy! And Sue can COOK; our breakfasts were amazing!! We felt like we were a part of their extended family while staying at the Inn!! We have traveled to many different states and countries and this is our favorite place because of Sue and Bruce!! We love the area, but more over we enjoyed relaxing each evening with Sue, Bruce, and other guests on the porch. ||||We did a lot of hiking while there (Shawnee Forest is a treasure!) and also ventured across the Ohio River on the ferry from Cave In Rock to visit some Amish in northern Kentucky (amazing furniture and baked goods). Sue and Bruce have many different maps of the area that were helpful in chosing where we would hike each day. Be careful while hiking though; there are not trail ratings and my husband and I encountered a few pretty treacherous trails (we are active, healthy, athletic mid 30 year olds for frame of reference). I would recommend googling different trails and doing a little research before coming to the area if you plan on hiking. Also, it's a good idea to bring a small cooler to bring food/drinks with you.||||Food tip: if you order pizza from the restaurant in the gas station (only one gas station, can't remember the name of it though), call in advance because we had to wait close to an hour for our pizza. Otherwise, the Etown restaurant (a floating boat on the river almost across from the Inn) has really good BBQ and fish! There were several places within a fifteen mile radius that served geat food (ask Sue for her recommendations). ||||Bottom line, if you are looking for an amazing place to relax, enjoy nature, and wonderful people (Sue and Bruce), this place has it all! We will be back and are looking forward to our next trip!

My husband and I chose to spend our anniversary at the River Rose Inn for the view of the water and because of the nearby exploring opportunities in the Illinois Ozarks. It was our first bed and breakfast experience, and Sue and Bruce exceeded our expectations. They are gracious hosts of a beautiful historic home. Even though we went exploring during the day, we could have stayed at the River Rose all day and watched the river, rocked on the porch, or swam in the pool. Breakfast was delicious. Each room has its own private bathroom and ours had a jetted tub. What a relaxing weekend!

This was a beautiful place to stay. We were immediately welcomed by a darling lady, Sue- the owner- as she was enjoying the afternoon on the beautiful, inviting front porch. She made us feel right at home. We felt like we took a step back in time- the inn is fully stocked with hand crafted antique furniture and Victorian- esque decor. We made good use of the very clean outdoor pool and hot tub, as we enjoyed the view of the river while doing so. The rooms were clean, and the bed was very comfy. If you want the regular, run of the mill hotel experience then do not stay here. This was a unique experience and we can't wait to return in the fall! Thanks Sue, Bruce, and Rosie for having us!

WOW!! What an amazing home to be a part of. Sue & Bruce make you feel part of the family every minute you are there. The rooms are clean and well appointed. The grounds are peaceful and offer many options from sitting out back enjoying a river view or laid back in the hot tub to a refreshing swim in the in ground pool or just relax on the front porch chair or swing. Breakfast was prompt and amazing. I highly recommend you make the trip your stay will be memorable and the area has an abundant variety of outdoor activities.

An amazing piece of history. This hotel/bed and breakfast was built in 1812 and has stayed running off and on since then. The rooms are spacious and clean. Each room has it's own bathroom and the upstairs rooms have access to the upstairs porch. The breakfast are great. If you are a hiker this bed and breakfast is in the perfect location to tons of state parks and river to river trail. The staff is great and helpful with anything you need. The town does not have much in it but the views are amazing and really show off the beauty of southern illinois.

Loved every minute at the hotel. We stayed here two nights, and loved our time at the Rose. The location is just about perfect, with a gazebo and waterfront right on the river. The breakfasts were amazing, and everyone was so nice. The rooms were great, with tall tall ceilings, and comfy beds. Surprisingly they have good wifi in the rooms as well. We were in the Mammy Rose room. Keep in mind the rooms and building is old, as in two centuries old. The rooms are clean and very nice. Really felt the history of the place and wished I would have had time delve more into that. Located right within the Shawnee National forest, it is that which is likely why you are there. If not, there isn't a lot around the area on either side of the river so if for whatever reason you want more options than nature and quiet then you shouldn't be here. Again, I can only rave on the structure and beautiful lot they have here. A great porch with amazing sunrises, awesome views of the river, right next to a fresh fish eatery, and you just sit back and soak in the history of the place. I have made it a point sense I've returned to tell everyone I know about the place. Go!

We actually stayed at this B&B in March 2016 to do a little hiking in the Shawnee Forest. We were the only ones staying there at the time. The inn its self is very comfortable, with a nice view of the river.||||Sue (and her two cute dogs) were the best thing, though. The service and breakfast were very good. It was nice getting to chat with her in the mornings. The bathroom & rooms were nice.

We has stayed here years ago and were pleased to find Bruce and Sue are taking such good care of the historic mansion. If you like photography then this is a fine place to stay to capture Ohio River images. Towboats, wildlife and some good bird life a short walk. The breakfast was good as always.
