My wife and I went to Moncho's Cafe today for lunch and were instantly impressed with the quality of the food and service here! We talked for a while with one of the owners (Michael Delgado). Not only is Moncho's a very welcome oasis in the desert of Puerto Rican food in the suburbs, but the quality of the ingredients is top-notch! The arroz con gandules is made without ham for those who are vegan/vegetarian, but the flavor is not lacking in the least. I had a steak jibarito and felt like I was back in Humboldt Park. The amount of garlic used was perfect, and they will leave you wanting more! My wife had the steak empanadas and tostones, and I couldn't keep my hands off of her plate. While the size of the seating area is smaller (around 6 or 7 tables), that lends to the cozy environment while enjoying your meal with good friends or family. The space was perfectly clean (a point of great importance) and I enjoyed the music playing. If you haven't stopped by this place yet, you're missing out!! Go online and order a sandwich for lunch, get some good quality coffee, order a dinner for your family (they close at 8), or just stop by! You won't be disappointed. 🙂 I'm already planning when I'll be back!

Incredible meal! I was craving some authentic Cuban pork and they came through. Great flavor and overall experience. Plentiful servings for a fair price.

Stopped in craving Puerto Rican cuisine and was not disappointed. Ordered the pan con bistek (steak sandwich), tostones (fried plantains), and arroz con habichuelas (white rice and beans). The steak was a bit chewy but generously portioned on fresh bread. The tostones were garlicky, which I enjoyed. The beans were perfectly seasoned. The place is small and cozy, with nice decorations evoking the island. Looking forward to returning and trying other things on the menu.

Stopped in, hoping to have some authentic Puerto Rican food, and was not disappointed! Ordered the pan con bistek (steak sandwich), tostones (plaintains), white rice, and beans. Beans were perfect, a mixture of seasoned red kidney beans and potatoes. The tostones were nice and garlicky. The steak was a bit chewy but generously portioned on fresh, crispy bread. The place itself is small and cozy, the food prepared with each order. I'll be returning to try more items on the menu!

I want to give a special shout-out to Michael and his amazing restaurant. We also believe in supporting small businesses and this young man is so deserving! We have gone twice and both times the food has been exceptional! I told my husband, the food reminded me of my mom’s cooking! Highly recommend! We will be back! I am uploading my before and after pictures!

Referred here by my Sister. She'd been here before and really enjoyed her visit.
Walking in your welcomed by the staff. I liked that, I wish more places were like that. We enjoyed a Café con Leche before lunch. We ordered a few empanadas, alcapuria, cubano, media noche, a few Jibaritos con arroz and of course we couldn't leave before dessert ♡ pan dulce.

The cafe con Leche was smooth and delicious. Although, I must be honest, lighter than I like and too small for what was supposed to be a medium.

The cubano (I was told) was ok but needed more meat.

The media noche (I was told) was good. Just right.

The Jibarito was good. I've had it in other places and it was different. I've never had it with crema. The meat was dry. No grilled onion and no garlic. Like I said, different from other places I've been to.

The empanadas were delicious and the right size for the price. They came with a sauce on the side, that looked like crema, we could have used some ají.

The alcapuria was just delicious, perfect actually. The sauce it came with was delicious.

The pan dulce is definitely not something you want to pass up. It was amazing, not too sweet, warm, and satisfying.
It would have been nice to enjoy it with another Café con Leche I had ordered but unfortunately I didn't.
The waiter, although very sweet and professional, was busy, thus being a little slow to tend to everything all by himself and came with it after I had finished my pancito.

They're a new establishment and we understand that as a new restaurant they might not have the resources to employ wait staff. Maybe our next visit will be more efficient.

The environment was very nice. Very clean. We felt comfortable and not rushed.

Thank you Moncho, see you again soon we hope.
