Wonderful place. Friendly service, tasty coffee and pastries. I especially recommend the Kitcha Fit Fit (bits of flatbread/noodle fried in spices, served with sour cream or honey) which is absolutely delicious and a satisfying way to start the day.

We recently dined at Mella Cafe, an Ethiopian restaurant that left a lasting impression. The staff was welcoming and even helped us pick a dish when couldn’t decide what to get.

We decided to get Qwanta Firfir, lamb tibs firfir and egg silsi. The firfirs came with injera and bread for the silsi. The portions were hearty and satisfying, offering great value for the experience. Every dish was packed with flavor, making each bite deliciously memorable.

Mella Cafe offers a true taste of Ethiopian culture, with expertly prepared dishes and exceptional service. Whether you're new to Ethiopian cuisine or a seasoned fan, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Wow! What an awesome place. I live very close to this restaurant, but had never been in to check it out. I wish I would've found it sooner. The coffee was delicious and I had the fatta - so fresh and filling. Lots of options - vegetarian, spicy, whatever you wish for and they have a lot of gelato options too. Very kind staff and very clean place. Nice tables for sitting. I can't wait to go back to try more dishes!

Came in for a quick breakfast while passing through Chicago. This food was crazy. Tasted as good as it smelled, and the woman who cooked it has a wonderful vibe.

Lovely husband and wife who are very sweet and hospitable. not to mention, the food is great. I loved that it reminded me of the cafe in Asmara, with the wide selection of pastries and gelato. 😋 It felt just like home! Nice and cozy!

What a lovely cafe! They offer a nice array of baked goods, gelato, waffles, sandwiches, smoothies, tea, and coffee. They also have a selection of Ethio/Eritrean menu items.

I had an iced latte along with the sardine silsi and really enjoyed it with the accompanying bread. Definitely look forward to trying out more of their menu!

This isn’t an ordinary cafe, but something special. In addition to pastries and coffee (which they do very well), they have Ethiopian treats like sambusas as well as gelato. Their pot of Ethiopian tea is enormous and will keep a couple people going for several hours. Every time I come there is something new to try. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Well lit and comfortable place to write.

Definitely worth checking out! The treats are delicious and authentic. Love that its not a chain and woman owned local business! Love everything about them. Definitely will be ordering from here again
