We spent the night of March 8th at Madera Kubo A frame #2. What a great experience. Our host greeted us on the porch and showed us around. The cabin was clean and well stocked for breakfast. Parking right in front of the cabin and the feeders were right at the bottom of the steps. We walked the road from the cabin down to white house picnic area listening for owls that evening and the next morning we were greeted by a large flock of turkeys, with some strutting gobblers. Constant bird activity at the feeders and in the trees overhead. Much more character and intimacy than I feel we would have had at Santa Rita Lodge.

We have gone every Fall for 6 years. The owners Cora and Richard are very nice people. The wildlife is incredible. If you go in the winter the heat is a wood stove and they supply the wood. It works very well. You might even have to crack a window!

My husband and I stayed in Madera Kubo for 1 night during the spring migration and we loved it. We were greeted by Cora (owner) and instantly felt at home. We stayed in the A-frame cabin and it was so cozy inside. The cabin was located above the gift shop and had bird feeders located all around.

On our first day, we saw the rare Blue-throated Mountain-gem outside the gift shop making its territory very clear. If you are an avid-birder, this is the spot for you. It is located within minutes of the Madera Canyon hiking trails where you’ll see many rare and familiar birds.

My husband and I will definitely be staying here again.

I just spent 2 nights at Madera kubo and found it to be a wonderful place to stay when visiting the canyon. Stayed in cabin #3 which is very cozy and a porch on backside that overlooks a creek. We were able to witness the turkey parade right there as they made their way late late afternoon up side of mountain to then fly to trees right by our cabin to roost for the night. It was truly amazing and quite a sight to see. We also woke to them right in front of our cabin parading around with tails fluffed up. Also saw other animals right near our cabin. Great location to walk to top of canyon or down to Santa Rita to birdwatch. Great hiking and such a beautiful place. The owners were very helpful both before and during our stay. Friendly and gracious hosts. We had a full kitchen with breakfast items and plenty of water supplied. As most already know there is no cell or internet service but kind of a nice break from all that for a couple of days. We did our research before we came regarding things to see and do including hiking areas. I will be going back and more than likely stay at the Madera Kubo again!

This is our favorite getaway place. Hosts are wonderful, the cabins are cozy and well equipped with necessities and the wildlife and birds couldn't be any better!!! This week, it was a bear walking by the cabin. To go to sleep with the sound of a small stream running by is just heavenly. The peace and rest gathered at this location is worth everything:) We attend at least twice a year.

These are cabins in Madera Canyon just south of Tucson, AZ. They are very comfortable, We stayed for three days to Hike the trails, watch the wildlife and see the migrating Hummingbirds up close and personal. The weather was perfect, warm days cool evenings. We booked cabin #3 and were delighted. Each evening we enjoyed sitting on the back patio watching the two creeks that merge below the cabin. We spotted a Ringtail cat, briefly and a bold Coatamundi that gave us quite a show. Each night a flock of turkeys would creep down and cross the creek and when half way up the left side they would fly up to roost in the tree above us. Quite the event. Each morning and during the daylight hours when we were at the cabin a never ending stream of Hummingbirds would visit the feeders as well as a comical gray squirrel. While hiking one trail was especially challenging and others were fairly easy, but there are many choices for hikes. We spotted two deer on different hikes one on our search for the secret waterfall. Well worth the hike back but we are still wondering how secret it really is, got a bit crowded but it was OK.||We are going to plan another trip next spring. It's not plush, the key word here is "CABIN" but it was very comfortable. They do not take credit or debit cards, I kinda liked that !. The owners were very nice, very helpful and not intrusive at all.

We live in Tucson so we hike near Kubo fairly often. When you pass the cabins they look dilapidated, the gift shop seems to always be closed, and cabin 3 and 4 across the way look like they should be torn down. Originally I assumed the owners lived in the run down cabins, I can't believe they actually try to rent these for almost $200/night. And after reading the reviews I doubt I'll ever stay here, even though it caught my eye initially. When we walked by yesterday we were basically told to get off the property even though it's on a main road. Huge bummer, a great opportunity to capitalize on the surroundings just being thrown away.

We spent two nights here in June 2022 - family of four with two teens. Husband and kids hiked to the top of Mt Wrightson and I picked up a new hobby: birdwatching! From the back porch of cabin #4, I saw goofy turkeys, lots of Mexican jays, acorn woodpeckers, and deer. You can’t imagine my excitement when a coatimundi climbed up the tree while I was enjoying lunch. In the morning, I drank coffee and spotted an elegant trogon! Owners Cora and her husband were welcoming and helped us identify the hummingbirds at the feeders. Madera Canyon was a relief from the blasting heat of the cities. We couldn’t have been more delighted to stumble on this gem. It wasn’t fancy but it was perfect for us.
