Very minimalist hut, perfect for a few nights while hiking in the area. Lot of wood to heat up the place and cook. It is as clean as shared hut could be. We brought some pan but it wasn’t necessary because there is some cooking gear already.
We could filtrer the lake water without any problem and spent some cold but resting night.

We snow shoed up to the hut from the town of Homewood, in deep snow. The hut was dry and stocked with cut logs, an axe, awl, wedges and sledge hammer for splitting. We split our wood indoors because the snow outside was so deep. The hut needs work. Downstairs left window won't close, and we had to stuff the one inch gap with newspaper to keep the wind and cold out. Same story upstairs in the loft - the locking mechanism is broken so the windows won't stay shut. This is a very big deal in the dead of winter, particularly since we were in a blizzard for 12 hours. There are four large pans for collecting snow to melt for water. One is rusted through, one is beat to hell, the other two are serviceable. We had four in our group and another six skied in - that means melting snow is a round-the-clock endeavor to keep everyone hydrated. Both stoves have multiple cracks and poor air regulation. The front stove lacks a draft regulator in the pipe. There are no solar panels or lights, some come prepared with head/lamps - the cabin is dark even in daytime. Despite all these we had a great time. But for $28/night, functioning windows seems like a given. Modest repairs are long overdue. Also, there are no pads so bring an air mattress.
