My husband and I stayed in Longbow cabin when it was first opened back in early 90's. Beautiful setting and cabin. I took a friend this summer to share the scenery and we stayed at the Bushmaster cabin. ||+I was so thrilled to look out the window in the morning and feel like I was in a movie set of Jurassic Park! Surreal! ||However, the accommodations of the cabin were lacking for the cost. Positives and negatives:|- The mattress upstairs was too hard and the futon that I slept on, was so old you could feel the slats from the frame. Bad sleep for friend and I. |- The A/C smelled moldy and wasn't cooling well, there was so much moisture in the air, our sheets felt wet. |+ I asked the son if his folks had a dehumidifier and they did buy one in the city and bring it to us which helped tremendously and he cleaned the drain on the AC which seemed to help somewhat, but the unit is in need of replacement. It is way too loud.|-In the Bushmaster and the Longbow, there is a lack of furniture in the living area. What furniture they have is not comfortable to lounge on. The decorating in the cabins is sorely lacking. Might be fine for men's taste, so should market it as rustic hunting cabin to set right expectation. Not what women would expect for a "romantic"getaway. Again the cost is way too much for the lack of ambience in the cabin.|+floors and kitchen counters were clean.|-besides full size refrigerator, no room to store supplies guests bring for kitchen.|-cabinets under sinks would benefit with cleaning and shelves installed for guests to store their food.|- when I asked for bedding for futon, they supplied a mattress pad, one sheet and light lap blanket. I was thankful I brought my own blanket and pillow.|-sheets were clean on bed but blankets smelled musty.|-the kitchen cookware was a collection of misfit supplies.|-the windows are in need of replacement in some areas because of leakage of gas between panes, fogginess and dirt.|-there is a jacuzzi tub (no shower) in Bushmaster and I couldn't use it because it doesn't look like the jet system has been cleaned and disinfected for a long, long time, if ever.|-the lighting inside the Bushmaster was terrible with different wattages of bulbs, I went to the local hardware and bought 4 LED 100 watts to put in the living area and kitchen. Made a huge difference.|-the outside lighting is also lacking. Instead of flood or spot lights, incandescent bulbs were used and to get from car to cabin at Bushmaster, it is a walk across a bridge, up rough stone steps. Pack light!|-the Longbow cabin has same issue with lack of lighting. Can lights or spot/flood light fixtures but small incandescent bulbs in them, if they work.|-Longbow cabin has drift wood for decoration that has years of dust accumulation on it, both cabins need deep cleaning.|+ I did notice when we walked through the Longbow Cabin between occupants that they did remodel the bathroom recently and looks nice.||I would like to recommend this place to everyone for the out of door experience. I cannot enthusiastically recommend, because of the accommodations. After so many years, there is a need for investment in updating the furniture and A/C and heating. Otherwise, they should change the marketing from romantic getaway to rustic no thrills stay and adjust the cost accordingly. ||The owners are a wonderful family. Very kind and friendly. When I told the owner how much I appreciated them buying the dehumidifier to use for our stay, he said a couple of times that he never had anyone complain before. Which put my request for one in question. ||As consumers, if we don't speak up and let the owners or managers of businesses know how to improve the accommodations, we are NOT doing them or future guests any favors. Brag about good service you get and inform about what needs attention. Hopefully, they will make improvements necessary and be a thriving business for decades to come and opportunity for others to enjoy.
