Unacceptable Experience – Avoid This Hotel

I recently stayed at Lion Gates Hotel with my family while we were in Sacramento for a funeral. After driving six hours with nine children, we were exhausted and hoped for a comfortable, peaceful stay. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but.

Upon checking in, the host was initially unfriendly, though she warmed up after we had a polite conversation. After getting into our rooms, we immediately noticed issues. The first room was dusty, but otherwise, it seemed okay. The second room was a different story. The window was cracked and couldn’t open for ventilation, and the room had a strong, overpowering scent of what seemed like perfume—likely an attempt to mask another odor. It was clear this room hadn’t been properly aired out or cleaned.

Things only got worse when we went to the pool. There were spiderwebs everywhere—on the entry gate, around the chairs, and even on the handicap lift. It looked as if no one had bothered to clean the pool area in quite some time. The Jacuzzi was also in poor condition—filled with leaves and bugs, and the jets barely worked.

Later, while unpacking, my husband found a clear glass container with a powdery substance in the room. We had no idea what it was, but upon closer inspection, he concluded that it was cocaine. We were horrified and immediately called the front desk. The staff offered to move us to a different room, but it was already late, and the kids were asleep, so we didn’t feel safe packing them up and relocating.

To make matters worse, as my husband continued to tidy up the room, he found more evidence that it hadn’t been cleaned properly—dust, used lipstick containers, and even half-finished bottled water. It was clear this room had not been cleaned in a long time. My husband and I were so unsettled that we couldn’t sleep, and spent the night fully dressed, too afraid to even get into bed.

The next day, my husband tried to speak with the hotel manager, but we were told she had to take her child to the doctor and never received a follow-up or apology. It’s been 30 days since our stay, and we’ve heard nothing from the hotel.

Given the unsafe conditions, lack of cleanliness, and the discovery of drugs in our room, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Our stay was a nightmare, and I hope the management takes this seriously and addresses the numerous issues we encountered.

The hotel is gorgeous . Rooms are nice. The location is quiet and tucked away. I didn't actually have a room there but I was visiting a friend. I do have to add though, if you call the front desk for someone staying there... Good luck getting through half the time. They seem to answer the phone only when they want to. I called the front desk multiple times for my friend and ended up having to give up. Same thing the next morning. Other than that, the place is great.

My husband, daughter and I stayed here for one night. Clean rooms, nice & safe location. Actually surprised for the price that I paid that it was a super cute room. Only complaint is that they sent me a text after check in and then a couple hours later asking if all okay. I texted back that toilet was running but nobody every came to fix it. I tried calling front desk and no answer; was told at check in they were having phone issues. I didn't go to front desk about issue (it was in separate building from my room) because the sound of toilet running not an issue with bathroom door closed. Highly recommend for the price, we stay in this area often and usually at this price point the room is either not as clean as I would like and/or in a crappy neighborhood.

The worst location ever. Booking.com led me totally astray as to where this is. There are no restaurants or anything and the one on site is closed. Avoid this place if you can. I am so bloody mad that I picked this awful hotel. Plus they don't even have a cork screw available. The AC also does not cool so it's stuff in the room. My worst pick ever! To add insult to further injury, the shower did not have not water. Boy did I make a big mistake and hope others don't do the same!

Super great service and amazing customer service. The rooms are super clean spacious and modern! The breakfast in the morning is great! The cooks makes amazing food and treat you well! I stay for 2 nights and then decided to book an extra 3 nights and Asianique at the front desk was happy to help me out and even upgrade me a room! Answered all my questions I had! She always had a smile on her face and professional customer service! Makes the stay that much better when the employee is there to make your stay easy šŸ‘Œ and then on checkout Erin on front desk helped woth the checkout made sure that my stay was good and asked if there was any issues or anything wrong which I appreciated a lot! Got my $100 deposit back and overall my experience was 10/10 best hotel in Sacramento by far in my opinion! Much respect and love to the lionsgate hotel and employees especially Asianique and Erin!
Definitely recommend you guys to all come here and check it out promise you guys won't regret it and will have a great smooth quiet stay!

Yeah nah. Heater doesn't work. This place is old. They have shutters that let in light in the morning. There is no elevator so enjoy carrying your 45 lbs luggage up the stairs. Just no. The only redeeming thing is they're near a gas station that sells fried chicken like you're in the south or somethang

The room was small. We reserved the room with the 2 queen beds and kitchenette. Free breakfast and pet friendly. Good location.

I have nothing but good things to say about this property. Staff was friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Breakfast was basic but enjoyable and Free! The property its self was well maintained and had a garden courtyard feel. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Laundry room available 24 hr a day. The beds were clean and comfortable. Enjoyed our stay very much.
