The landscape and surrounding area is amazing. So full of wildlife and nice views. I enjoyed working here last summer as it was very chill. The manager wouldn’t put unnecessary pressure on us and treated workers and clients very politely. Still, there’s a lot of renewing work to be done. The boats were my favourite part. For as a worker I could enjoy using them as long as there were no clients

I've been a visitor to Kit Carson Lodge over many years, and I've always loved this place. It's perfect for quiet times on beautiful Silver Lake and for those who love a classic, rustic Sierra experience. It's like the lodges I went to as a kid, decades ago. It's an excellent base for kayaking and day hikes around the Kirkwood & Carson Pass area. My one piece of advice for visitors is to bring extra food -- and for management & staff to make clear that they offer only a continental breakfast, and that dinner hours might vary day-to-day. Many guests are there to enjoy outdoor activities (like strenuous hikes) and will work up an appetite, so access to a good meal at the start and end of each day is important. There are very few dining options in the area, but the staff didn't seem to know the days/hours of the few other eateries. We had to drive a great distance to find a solid breakfast before a long hike, and we scrambled to find a dinner option when the lodge's restaurant closed early one evening, unannounced. When we failed to find one, the staff DID come to our rescue and re-opened the kitchen to prepare dinner for us. They were very kind and gracious about it -- but the situation could have been avoided with better planning and communication. All told, Kit Carson Lodge is wonderful, and I recommend it highly. They just need to adjust the dining situation a bit.

Came to celebrate our anniversary . With a three night stay. We left the next morning. The grounds were littered. Trash cans full next to each cabin ( it’s bear country) . Broken screen door barely hanging , was our greeting to our cabin . |The cafe was the last straw. Dead flies on the window sills. Old French fries on the floor. The “ Butter chicken “ was not chicken .. It was tofu .. That’s when we decide to leave the next morning. |This place is not good. Nor are the owners.

I've been going to Kit Carson Lodge for nearly 60 years.
My parents' ashes are both buried at Granite Lake and I make a trip up there every year to say hi to them and bring them their "drink".
SO, as you can guess Silver Lake and Kit Carson Lodge are very special places to me.
On this trip I give the cabin (rooms) (Cinnamon Bear) a 4 as we were there on the last day of their season and the unit does need some work which they were attending to.

Sam, the Property Manager is a great guy! We had a couple of requests and he took care of them immediately. He told us about lots of exciting enhancements he would like to see on the property. He is very committed to Kit Carson Lodge (so much so that I initially thought he must be the owner) 🙂

I also want to call out Scott (the head of maintenance who helped us several times in the 4 days we were there.
This is a wonderful property with great lake and forest views and so many things to do in the local area (hiking, biking, boating, fishing.

Thank you Sam and Scott for making it a wonderful vacation!!

It is a bare bones old lodge - just what we wanted. BIG SURPRISE - the restaurant food was excellent after a long day of hiking. Both the butter chicken dinner and chicken with mushroom sauce dinner. Not fancy, but awesome.

We booked a hotel room for $300 for a Tuesday night. Our expectations were for a clean rustic room. Our room was very worn and smelled. The bedding was very old and uninviting. The bathroom was old and had a tiny toilet and shower with mismatched old towels. The room had two sliding glass doors, one with a stick for security, the other had a broken lock and no stick. We requested another stick as the room did not feel secure. We found clothing in one of the dresser drawers (missing a drawer pull) and turned it into the front desk, wondering how thoroughly someone had cleaned the room. The patio furniture was an eclectic combination of old, worn and uncomfortable pieces, with a broken metal support protruding on one of the lounge chairs. ||Being in a hotel room, we had planned to eat in the restaurant during our stay. The website indicated the restaurant was closed on Tuesday so we called and they assured us it would be open. It was open but only a few of the items on the lunch menu were available when we tried to order. They explained that most of items on the menu were not available due to the fact it was the cook’s day off. So reluctantly I ordered a hamburger that came with fries and asked to substitute the fries with something else. I was told no. The hamburger was very greasy. I inquired about the dinner menu which was brought to me but told nothing on that menu would be available tonight, only the same few underlined items on the lunch menu.||We went back to the room, grabbed our bags and left. After many years visiting here and bringing friends here, we have crossed this place off our list of favorites.

Such a beautiful spot. The owners have left it to ruin. Trash blowing around . Full trash cans next to cabins. This is bear country? The cafe is a health dept disaster waiting to happen. We booked for three nights . We left at 7 am the next day. We are locals and know the surrounding resorts offer much more. So sad . Great location . Poor management ..

We were a group of 13 at Kit Carson (across 8 rooms) and we had a lovely stay! Sam, the manager, is a wonderful host. He took great care of all guests and made sure everyone had whatever was needed throughout the stay. Chef Marcus was also incredibly hospitable and had a delicious menu that we enjoyed all four days of our trip. The location was spectacular right next to Silver Lake and is the perfect location for visiting other nearby destinations in the Sierras. Looking forward to returning soon!
