Stayed here for a business trip. The location is great and it is in Downtown Oakland area.

There are lots of eating outlets within walking distance of the hotel.

Coming to the stay, the rooms are clean and spacious. They don’t have breakfast buffet but they do have a restaurant / bar on the main floor. The paid breakfast options are good.

Only thing I didn’t like was the road noise which will come at night. Luckily there isn’t much traffic on that road. But avoid taking room on that side of the building.

This was a memorable stay for all the reasons I don’t usually find memorable on trips, the hotel. The building is beautifully designed and makes excellent use of space. The lobby and restaurant and welcoming areas to hang out, eat, work, socialize. Staff were warm, highly responsive, and accommodating. Room was very comfortable, luxurious bed and bathroom. Adequate fitness center, excellent food. Not just pet friendly but downright welcoming of our pet. Centrally located, very near public transit. Will definitely recommend to friends and family when visiting Oakland. Will return.

This is my second visit to the Kissel uptown, Oakland. The hotel is very clean, quiet, and located in an area with many restaurants within walking distance.
If you’re here traveling on business, and require peace and tranquility, I definitely recommend asking for a room at the center of the hotel. There is zero noise from traffic on the street.
Parking is available under the hotel.
I found both my rooms to be spacious and elegant.
The bathrooms are modern, spacious, and I definitely enjoy this walk-in showers. No climbing into a tub! Sorry, just not my thing.
Finally, the staff is awesome! Very helpful and accommodating.

This place is totally fine, not great, but will likely serve for what you need. However, do not go over your budget for this hotel, it is not worth it. The good: location is convenient and near lots of mass transit, BART, bus, etc., quiet, safe, good room size, great coffee shop nearby, Telegraph Ave. proximity is fantastic.

The bad: the customer service is meh - they didn't appear interested in checking us in when we arrived and no one was there. Finally someone came out and seemed annoyed at our presence. The room is bare bones, the shower didn't drain AT ALL, the fridge is comically small. I mean you cannot fit a bottle (any bottle) of water in this thing. I'm not sure who it's made for? Dolls? The provided coffee is atrocious and I'm usually fine with any hotel coffee, and the hotel rooftop bar is on a second floor like 2 blocks away. It will do for a quick trip for sure, but go with low expectations.

FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO STAY

I would not book this area. You have to pay 52 dollars for valet. Why and the room is 200 dollars. It should be included. No street parking or even a safe place to leave the car for the valet to get to.

The staff is extremely nice and very helpful. Modern insides with an amazing bar area.

The location is awful and full of traffic.

The rooms are awful-looking. Very bland/no taste. Dark grey walls and bland grey flower wallpaper. There is not a single matching thing in the room at all. Furniture is all hard. The bed is uncomfortable. View....what view. You can view another room and that's it from the window. The blinds are overly large for a small window.

2 paintings on the wall which are very small and no furniture matched anything or one another. Still smells like paint. Why is the mini fridge so small you put two small drinks inside and it's filled for the space to be so large. My girl complained all the furniture was very hard and she could not relax. Why is the chair so low but the desk is so high?

The AC unit takes hours to get up to temp. We froze under covers for almost 4 hours.

The shower is open so water went everywhere toward the entrance of the door where you walk out.

Also, they provide a robe and it feels awful.

I would not spend 200 dollars a night plus 52 dollars for valet. 252 dollars a night.

Probably the best hotel experience you’ll get in Oakland. The service and location were spot-on for our family. The area is safe although Telegraph St. (located just behind the hotel) certainly has its moments. Lots of options for food located around the hotel. They have excellent breakfast, and if you want bagels, go next door!

Unfortunately, the hotel doesn’t allow UberEats to be delivered to your door but you can pick it up in the lobby, perhaps security reasons.

Additionally, they have shared water stations to refill the water bottles they provide you. I may have caught a stomach bug from this, so if you want to avoid this, bring your own bottles.

The hospitality at this hotel was seriously lacking which we did not expect. We booked this hotel for our wedding night and arrived wearing pretty clear wedding clothes. We did not have our wallets as we had been dropped off by our wedding party. We communicated to the front desk upon our arrival it was our wedding night and we may arrive back late and potentially drunk (LOL). The receptionist said she made a note. When we returned we showed the front desk a picture on our phone of our ID and told her our room number. We didn’t have our key but we thought no problem we took the steps to prepare and they made a note but nope, we were left in the lobby for 45 minutes as they said we didn’t have proper identification to get inside. After chatting back n forth they finally generated a new key for us and it didn’t work so we had to come back down from the 6th floor and ask the front desk again. They had to call security and all the while my partner had to use the restroom but they didn’t offer her access to any lobby level bathroom — considering the first floor is a bar, we were surprised to say the least they would not let her enter the bathroom. We arrived to the hotel around 12am so it wasn’t ridiculously late and when we finally got into our room there was no more room service for the night so we were hungry.

They have pride flags all over their lobby however they did a super poor job validating and making our queer wedding night stay enjoyable…strange experience and I can’t in good faith recommend this hotel 🤷🏻‍♀️

We still had a good night all and all but this hotel is not it.

Best hotel stay ever. Incredible staff, accommodations, food and service. Became a member and the rates were great. This was during Christmas Week. Many wonderful small restaurants and coffee within easy walk and I'm 75. Hotel bar and food was the best surprise.
