I came here on the Amtrak Southwest Chief and spent the weekend in Fort Madison mainly to watch the trains but to also enjoy the Mississippi River. It is an older building but nicely restored and the rooms are modern and classic at the same time. Since the hotel is geared towards railfans (there's a railcam overlooking the BNSF lines) the internet was more than adequate plus the free breakfast a big plus. A few restaurants are within walking distance along with the riverfront and the Santa Fe depot

If you like beautiful rooms and architecture, this is the spot! I can't get over how beautiful this building is! Every room is different, take the tour and pick the room that suits you. The staff is amazing and full of historical knowledge about the building and the area. I love this place! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

Very much enjoyed our stay in room 203 which has a direct view of the river and trains and natural light in the bathroom. Enjoyed the vintage furnishings and decor. FYI the inn does not offer breakfast.

Very nice stay. Proximity to the Ft Madison Swing bridge and rail traffic is a huge plus for the rail fan. Walking distance to most everything, including the Amtrak station.

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary. We really enjoyed the hotel! The history is charming. We had a beautiful fall view of the Mississippi. The staff were all super friendly and there was a lot to do within walking distance. I booked a room facing the river and underestimated how many trains would come through the station. If you are a little noise sensitive I’d suggest a courtyard room. It might be a little quieter. (If the giant fans from the building next door aren’t running) But we weren’t as bothered by the trains as we initially thought we would. We loved Fort Madison and will definitely be coming back again.

Perfect location for those who want to railfan. The room was clean and comfortable. All employees were welcoming and friendly. A special thank you Mandy, who provided top-notch service that went above and beyond. She took the time to put together her own list of railfan locations that provided unique photo opportunities. Mandy offered superior customer service before checking in and during my stay. Will definitely return to Kingsley Inn.

This handsome old brick building, a former laundry, has views of the mighty Mississippi. It's been transformed into a gem of a place to stay whenever I visit Fort Madison. Registration and communication with the front desk is always reliable, and our accommodations (a two bed two-bath apartment) were perfect in every way. Since Fort Madison is my hometown, the nearby and frequent trains were like a lullaby to me. Other guests may want to take advantage of the earplugs and sound machines that are offered to all guests. Breakfast in the beautiful morning room features a variety of items, hot and cold. A wonderful place to stay, highly recommended

Lovely hotel, very comfortable beds, beautifully decorated rooms. I loved the trains and Mississippi River! Delicious continental breakfast. My grandmother’s hometown born there in 1895. My second time at the Kingsley. Highly recommend!
