A really nice room, great space, and comfy bedding. Rare self-parking in a downtown core. Access to a decent enough gym and a cool cocktail lounge. It's a unique set up that it's seemingly a floor of an otherwise office building - so there is no hotel restaurant. There's a little coffee set up in a central lounge. I'd recommend for a local-type experience that veers from the standard hotel fare, well-rewarded with a good accommodations.

We stayed here a couple nights ago and it was fabulous. The hotel is in an iconic building, very nostalgic. Greeted my Mr. Carlton who was very courteous and showed us great hospitality. The ambiance on the room floor and the rooms are exquisite. Room was very clean and very unique and comfortable. A small lobby in the hall with comfortable chairs and tv. A break room with all the drinks, coffee, snacks you want complimentary. Next morning a very nice upscale continental breakfast was in the break room. They made it one of the most enjoyable stays we’ve ever experienced.

This hotel is so unique and high class. It offers a premium hotel experience for a fraction of the cost of other similar hotels in downtown Birmingham. I was shopping for a suite to stay in downtown and was looking at rooms over $1000 a night. I found John Hand via recommendation from a friend and was not disappointed. I would stay here over anything else offered downtown. Such a beautiful space with great food and coffee options right down the road within walking distance.

My wife and I stayed here, and could not recommend it enough as a hidden gem in Birmingham. There are six suites, each designed thoughtfully and with a flair of Birmingham history. It’s a great mix of modern comfort in a historic building, with spacious bathrooms and comfortable beds.

It’s also extremely quiet. I believe all the rooms were booked when we were there, but I only saw one guest in the common areas once. The kitchenette in the common area is nice, and we also enjoyed making drinks and going out to the common balcony to see the view of Vulcan.

The management was super friendly and helpful too! Just the epitome of hospitality.

Just stopped for a night before continuing on our final destination. The suite we stayed in was the Cobblestone. It was very clean and comfy. The connected balcony was very nice. I cant say enough about the staff. They were absolutely wonderful. From the hotel managers to the security, they insured we were made to feel right at home. We will definitely be back!!

Thank you John Hand Club hotel for an amazing visit!

This place offers a unique lodging experience that was truly luxurious. I loved this place and will seek it out as my preferred option in the area going forward. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, the suite was spacious and offered a cool view of Vulcan, and the shower was exceptional. This place may be the best kept secret that Birmingham has to offer.

A very luxurious hotel, the room is awesome! Room was clean and bed was comfy. Although some reviews commented about the noise issue, I was lucky enough that I didn’t experience it at all. Simple complementary breakfast (but tasty and healthy) was provided. I enjoyed it every day of my stay. Definitely will stay in this hotel again.

Pricey but superb boutique hotel located in the private John Hand Club building. The Vulcan Suite (from which the statue of Vulcan is visible, although far away) was appointed with the finest Peacock Alley robe and king bedding. Solid brass fixtures complement the large marble bathroom. Snacks and bottled water in the rooms are complimentary. Hotel guests are now invited to The Welton bar atop the John Hand Building; cocktails were pricey but excellent and the sunset views were spectacular. The hotel includes a complimentary concierge station, with snacks, self-serve light continental breakfast, guest refrigerators, icemaker, etc. Adjoining the concierge area is a small patio where guests can enjoy cigars or take a cellphone call. The doorman was even named Carlton -- yes, really. Parking is a little bit of an effort -- park in the short-term spaces behind the hotel (corner 20th St North and Morris Ave.), unload bags and check in, then move your vehicle to the parking garage across Morris Ave. No additional fees to park.
