Christopher the night concierge was amazing and went above and beyond for us. We had to arrive at 3am and he was so accommodating and exceptional. The room service was prompt and delicious, still nice and warm. We participated in the Thanksgiving buffet which was very good with a wide range of options. The entire staff was welcoming to our furry kids and very helpful with any question we had. The decor was beautiful and I love the kids check in station for those traveling with kids. We stayed in a suite and it was nice and spacious with a lot of natural light at the end of a very quiet hallway. I also really appreciated the shower slip-proof mat that was optional in our restroom- I am prone to falls and the shower can be a bit daunting for me when I travel.

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The staff is always on it and friendly. Any issues I had were solved promptly. They had great communication with my family and I. The beds were comfy and the rooms were nice, spacious and clean. Each room has a keurig and nespresso. I highly recommend!

My stay was brief but I really enjoyed the size of the room. Bed was comfy (pillows were fluffy, which might turn people off). But I really enjoyed the service. Kyle was a great server in the restaurant, and Lily was extremely accommodating with our added requests for coffee, sweeteners, and a small pony. (She brought me the last one, so don't try requesting one. You snooze, you lose, people!) And both had a great sense of humor. Jacqui at the front desk was also wonderful. I wish I had more time to stay, but I do hope to return one day.

We had a wonderful stay at Shattuck Plaza for our anniversary and felt thoroughly spoiled... they were even thoughtful enough to provide pregnancy-friendly alcohol free champaign! The rooms are comfortable and luxurious, and the staff were exceptional (special thanks to Janea at the front desk for making us feel thoroughly welcome). We definitely hope to stay again in future!

Review update:

The hotel/restaurant contacted me and provided the receipt . We noticed the wine was incorrectly charged and the 20% gratuity was added twice. The amount was fixed and I was refunded the difference.

I appreciate the effort to make things right. Next time, please provide customers the receipt where they can see all the charges upon checkout. I know mistakes happen and this could have been spotted and fixed right away.

Other than that, the hotel was great, clean, comfortable, nice location, and the staff was welcoming.

I stayed at the hotel last Friday. On checkout, they told me the total amount charged to my card for room service and it sounded a lot more than what I ordered (a beer and a glass of wine).

I knew a $5 fee + 20% gratuity was added for every order but even with that, the total didn't make sense.

I asked for the receipt with what I ordered and they said they couldn't give me at the moment but would email me.

I didn't get any email. I called twice again and both times they said they would email me the receipt but did not.

I called a third time, they said only the restaurant/bar Zino could provide the receipt. When talking to the person in charge at the restaurant, they said they didn't have, only the total amount.

My wife stayed at this hotel as part of a conference and was highly disappointed. She made a reservation in August. At that time there were two room options when she accessed reservations via the conference link. Both rooms were the same price. She selected one and completed/ confirmed the reservation. Two weeks later she received an email that the room rate had been increased by $100 PER NIGHT of the 5 night stay without notice or explanation. When we called to inquire about the change, the person she talked to was not helpful and would only say that was the "contracted rate for the conference". She asked to be changed to a room with the original room rate and received confirmation. When she arrived she was told the room she reserved was not available and they assigned rooms upon arrival and all of that room type were already assigned. She was going to be downgraded to a full size bed when she reserved a king. At this point she expressed her displeasure with the front desk about this being the second time her reservation had issues and they somehow found an "upgrade". However, this was not an upgrade as it was a smaller room than the one reserved, but it did have a king bed. When she checked in the outside temperature was 90 degrees and half the hotel did not have AC. While her room technically had AC it barely worked. The hallways and common areas were very hot. The bedside reading lamps in the room did not work nor did the plug-ins on the bedside tables. She had planned to use the hotel gym during her stay, but decided against it once she knew it was on one of the floors completely without AC.

It was amazing. Its over a hundred years old and still has the original elevators and chandelier in it. Right in the heart of downtown Berkeley you can walk most everywhere you need to go. No need for an uber unless you're pressed for time. My first time in California and will definitely be going back. Everyone is so friendly for such a large bustling city. Berkeley is in a time capsule and I loved it

Great job with bar and lobby. Met friends staying here for drink. Drinks were good and It was a bright ambiance - classic and bright. Easy to relax and have a conversation.
