I thought the food was tasty but did not like the steep prices. I subbed the seafood chowder for one of my sides--it was so delicious. I was full by the time my main course arrived. I luckily had a refrigerator in my hotel room, so I took leftovers to eat the next day. The Bushwacker Mojito was phenomenal. Maybe consider splitting a main entree and definitely try the seafood chowder. The dining room was quiet for our visit, and the views were amazing! We did walk up a lot of steps from Creek Street. I am not sure if there are other options for transportation during busier times.

I wasn’t going to write a review but a couple days later my friend just brought up me being laughed at so it’s back in my head so here we are.

I’ve been coming here for almost 5 years now, I spend about a quarter of the year in Ketchikan and Heen Kahidi/Cape Fox have always been one of my go to places. Unfortunately after today I won’t be going back and will be spreading the same word to the crews I travel with, who also appreciate this place the same.

Eric asked us what we would like to order, not just drinks, our food; we hadn’t even gotten menus yet. First time I placed an order for menus. You think you’d see we didn’t have menus.

He asked what we’d like to drink after a wait, and my friend placed her order, then he walked away without asking the other 2 of us.

When I ordered a Chardonnay he had no clue what they had, some new system excuse. Mind you they have a toast system but he’s using it as a hard surface to write out order on his notepad. I know the toast worked bc that’s how we paid for our bill on the receipt. Apparently they didn’t even have Chardonnay in the end.

Zero interaction with us after we ordered. No check in on how things were, the 2 bite rule as some call it, could have fixed the issues I had with my tacos.

They’d fill one of our water glasses and ignore the others.

Food was bland but okay for the others. The chicken Caesar wrap my friend had was a ton of lettuce with bits of chicken, dressing, and parmesan cheese; that’s it. Fries were good, I ended up eating what fries she didn’t for lunch.

I had the halibut tacos and seafood chowder. Chowder was really good, I recommend if that’s all you order. Tacos on the other hand had no sauce on them, were overcooked and had canned jalapeños, tomato chunks, and plain lettuce. When I asked if there was any kind of sauce that goes with them they brought sour cream; in all fairness that’s what the menu says. So basically the only thing I tasted was the little bit of sour cream I put on them so only ate half of one bc they were not good at all.

In the end, and the icing on the cake, he saw I had all my food left and asked if I wanted a box. I replied no, it was dry and just wasn’t good at all. He laughed and walked away to print the checks. I’m not exaggerating at all, my 2 friends were laughing at the response too, and the whole ride home.
He was talking with a coworker about us, right next to us, something about Navy sub people that come there, which we weren’t. Maybe he’s had some bad experiences with them, but not a good look to complain about other ppl and assume we’re part of a certain group within earshot.

Recommend all to avoid. Horrible service, mediocre/horrible food. They’ve definitely gone downhill and has seemed to go progressively downhill over the past year. Checking out as a prior Cape Fox fan and advocate, never again.

this is gross. we lived on ketchikan YEARS and ate here dozens of times, we got take out as a treat tonight at this is what we got, the "halibut fries" was a small pile of fries with 2 small pieces of halibut on top. the burger looked like it was made of frozen beef pattys, and the "salad" was a clump of lettuce with 2 croutons. the food was insanely expensive for the quality of the food. this restaurant is not at all what it used to be

Worst Valentine's Day dinner ever. Bread was good mud pie was good main meal terrible. Rib eye was a poor excuse for a steak. Really thin cut and tuff. Bacon wrapped scallops were over cooked and dry, no lemon or sauce to go with. No baked potato or mashed for an option, just French fries. For $50 a plate for there special it was disappointing. Should have had a over priced burger. Ever sense the big menu change, quality has gone way down to try and cut corners and make more money. Use to be good but last few times eating both breakfast and dinner have been very disappointing. To bad they have to cut corners and serve terrible food in the winter to the locals. When we are there main source of income. Cut corners in the summer with the tourists but not with the locals.

Stopped for lunch on our port day - friendly service and great views. Check Facebook page for daily special - the pork sliders were the special of the day and fantastic! Very flavorful and filling.

Expected better from this restaurant considering it stands on Cape Fox Lodge's reputation for service and quality.

During a recent dinnertime visit with a group of 12, we experienced slow and chaotic service at best up to the point where the entrees arrived.

This was not the typical slowness you'd expect with a larger table, this was a 20 minute delay on ~7 drinks and a further 20 minute delay on delivery of several bottles of wine for the rest of the table. We had a 7:00 pm reservation and the wine arrived at 7:40. Oof.

Refills on waters arrived the same time as the wine. Starters were delivered sometime in the middle. The food (starters and entrees) were presented well and were really good! Kudos to the kitchen for coordinating the timing on the entrees.

Overall it was not the best service at dinner. Our server seemed to lack either adequate help and/or experience in multitasking.

A few of our group visited again for breakfast the following morning and while the service was certainly faster, the standards and practices of the kitchen were questionable. One person in our party ordered the eggs benedict and the English muffin was burnt. Charred. We couldn't believe the kitchen actually sent it out like that (see the picture).

On the whole, this restaurant has largely excellent food and some things to improve on in the service department. I would probably look somewhere else if you're looking for a great experience.

Got the lunch special. Was told it was 2 handmade taquitos with beans and rice. Was served just 1 that was halfway filled with meat and cut in half. Also didn't come with rice. Very disappointing. You wouldn't cut a burger in half and sell it as two burgers.

A single halfway filled taquito, some beans and a single beer ran me over 30 bucks. Absolutely ridiculous. Yall need to get it together.

Beautiful place though. And the bartender was nice. Probably won't return.

While staying a week in the Cape Fox Lodge, Heen Kahidi Dining was our most accessible—and one of the most satisfying retaraunts we ate at! Our large party of 10 enjoyed most dinners here, as well as several morning breakfasts, and one afternoon lunch. Their dessert menu is so good, that we even came down just for dessert one night!

While the menu can feel pretty pricey, it's what you'd expect to pay at a nice sit-down that overlooks the ocean and serves fresh-caught Alaskan seafood. The large windows offer breathtaking sights of the surrounding forest, the Ketchikan shopping streets below, and a perfect full-view of the cruise ships that pull into the docks each day.

Of all the many days and meals our family ate here, no one ordered a single meal that they didn't throughly enjoy. Some favorites among us were the Salmon Benedict (breakfast), Seafood Chowder (lunch/dinner), and undoubtedly the Mud Pie (dessert). The portions on most entrees were extremely generous, so some meals can easily be split, depending on how hungry you are.

The wait time can get pretty long if you come during busy hours (our slowest meal was the day we went in for lunch, during peak cruise ship tourist hours). But if you plan enough time accordingly and aren't rushed, it's well-worth the wait. All of the staff were nice and accommodating here too.

This restaurant is accessible from the lobby on the main floor of Cape Fox Lodge, and is absolutely worth the visit if you're looking for a quality dining experience!
