We stayed here while we were in town for a business event. The hotel was nice. There were some beautiful sitting areas in the lobby area. The rooms were nice and clean. We had dinner at the Six Sixteen Restaurant. It was delicious. Just one precaution when booking, I didn't pay attention, the parking is valet only. The hotel is very convenient to the BJCC, so that makes it nice. We also had their free breakfast buffet offered by the hotel and it was delicious.

Location
The historic Tutwiler Hotel enjoys a prime location, just half a mile from I-20 and five miles from Birmingham Airport. It boasts a fitness center, a restaurant, and a bar called The Six Sixteen. Guests can take advantage of complimentary hot breakfast and Wi-Fi during their visit.

While the hotel's location is beneficial because of its proximity to local attractions, it does come with challenges, including limited parking and a visible homeless presence around the perimeter of the building. Given its downtown urban environment, parking can be quite restricted, so I highly recommend using the valet services provided.

Common Areas
The main common areas for guests are well-maintained and feature numerous smaller spaces where you can relax in intimate groups with your travel companions.

Food options
The restaurant and bar offer light bites without the need to leave the property. We enjoyed dinner through DoorDash and savored refreshing drinks at The Six Sixteen. This allowed us to unwind after a long day of travel without having to retrieve our vehicle from valet parking or navigate the city’s traffic.

Breakfast
We savored drinks at the restaurant and indulged in the complimentary breakfast the following morning. The breakfast bar is quite minimal, providing just a light option to kickstart your day, but it may feel limiting if you're not interested in a predominantly carb-based meal. The offerings included:
• Waffles
• Bagels
• Scrambled eggs
• Grits
• Oatmeal
• Whole fruits
• A small selection of yogurt
Regular drip coffee is available with a variety of condiments, but specialty coffee is not offered at this hotel.

Rooms
The guest hallway corridors and rooms were not as well-kept as the common spaces. We noticed threadbare carpet, areas needing paint, tears in wallpaper, a missing rail in the elevator, and a ceiling tile in our room requiring repair. Although these issues were not dealbreakers, they did detract from our overall experience. I hope maintenance is scheduled for these areas soon.

Service
The staff we interacted with—valet parking attendants, front desk personnel, and restaurant employees—were all courteous and carried out their responsibilities with a smile. Despite several events taking place at the same time, they were attentive when needed, and we never felt hurried in any way.

The "remodeling" of this place looks terrible. There are so many things broken and worn out in the rooms. I'm not sure if I was above the washing room or maybe it was the A/C unit outside, but it was a constant humming and vibration in the floors all morning. The $38/day valet parking is pictured below. 10ft from that, you can park on the street for $17/day. Upon check out, I let them know they stay was terrible and my bed had ticks. They were thankful for the information and waved me out the door. DO NOT STAY HERE. Admire it from outside.

The beautiful exterior is used to mask the antiquated interior. The rooms are in need of serious renovation (carpets are dirty, musty smell throughout the room, stained furniture, dusty/moldy vents, cramped bathroom, loose bathroom hardware, slow draining tub, inconsistent water temps, and weak/loud air conditioning). The service was fine minus the cleaning staff trying to enter my room without knocking, with the 'Do Not Disturb' placard out, and at 7:50am. The location is ideal but it's honestly not worth the price. There is potential here but I wouldn't hold your breath, similar reviews date to years back.

I had the most disappointing hospitality experience to date during my stay here nearly a week ago. Given the historic prominence of this hotel and the way its elegance is marketed, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, from check-in to checkout, I encountered one issue after another.

Beyond the lobby, the hotel is in desperate need of updates. The gym was unkempt, lacked some workout equipment and bottled water. The advertised 24-hour coffee and tea station was missing both coffee and hot water for tea. While breakfast was passable, it was served on disposable paper and plastic ware, which detracted from the overall experience.

The front desk staff lacked the fundamental customer service skills one would expect from an establishment of this reputation. They were unhelpful and unaccommodating throughout our stay. What was meant to be a relaxing stay quickly turned into a regrettable experience.

On a lighter note, the rumors about the hotel being haunted appear to be true—though thankfully, nothing a bit of melatonin and a good pair of headphones could not manage.

Overall, I would not recommend The Tutweiler for your hospitality needs. Additionally, I echo the many concerns raised about parking. The $40 per night valet charge is a bit excessive.

The entire experience unfortunately felt more reminiscent of a roadside motel than a historic luxury hotel.

This is an older, historic hotel with lots of charm. The rooms and suites were larger in comparison with other newer hotels. The decor is dated, but the hotel was clean. The staff was courteous and helpful but the valet staff was outstanding. The drive and entryway is very tight and the unloading area is small. Valet parking is the only safe parking available, but don't be put off by the small quarters. I have used valet services in many cities and venues and this was by far the most efficient, quickest valet service I have encountered. Vince was outstanding in guest interactions. He even learned the members of our family who were all in for a wedding and was able to time getting numerous cars around the same timeframe. The longest wait was only about 11 minutes. Exceptional! The onsite restaurant was a nice surprise and the staff there were very accommodating as well. The bed linens and pillows could use some upgrades but the towels are bath sheets not regular towels which is a nice touch. We requested a refrigerator for our room and one was brought up. The complimentary breakfast was a complete spread and was very good for hotel breakfast. Offerings were replenished throughout the service time and the dining area was kept clean. This was a great location for our wedding party - close to venues for Friday and Saturday. There are also dining options close by. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a downtown vibe with charm.

It is an older hotel which makes it classy. We ordered an inexpensive room from an online service. So the room was simple but adequate. Of course, the room had been updated/remodeled over the years, but things were coming loose. Like chrome covers on the base of pipes and the shower head mechanism. But it all worked. The hotel itself had a super bar lounge with GREAT food and atmosphere. Optional valet parking. Pillows and bed/mattress were excellent, like all hiltons. And, of course, it is right downtown, and that's where we needed to be!

I don't understand not having a mini-fridge and microwave. That just seems silly in today's world. It's a historic hotel, which is cool, but it's in a pretty bad neighborhood, and your only parking option is valet. I suppose you could pay one of the many homeless people out front to watch your car. All in all, not a great choice for my purposes, but I didn't read the reviews before booking, so that's on me.
