Returning UChicago student visiting from a conference and I had such a fun time! It truly felt like I was visiting someone’s home and they took excellent care of me.

I stayed in the orange room which looked exactly like the photos and had such a comfortable experience. I visited during the summer and they had ample outdoor space for me to eat outside, which I definitely took advantage of.

You cannot beat the location, very easy if you want to navigate public transit or just use ride share apps! Close to campus if visiting UChicago campus and of course loads to do in the neighborhood.

I want to thank Caryl and Phillipe for their hospitality and kindness, I will definitely return!

My husband and I were in Chicago for family ancestry research and for vacation. We stayed in the Orange Room, and wow, it was amazing. This room is huge and full of natural light. So many beautiful windows! The bed and pillows were comfortable and there was space for lots of luggage, hanging items, a desk and chair for laptop working, nice lighting, coffee and tea in the room and lovely views of the neighborhood from this second floor room. The bathroom was huge, also flooded with light. It has two sinks, a large shower plus a large soaking tub. It has heated floors and towel holder, and cozy robes, but we didn't need those in May. Hamlin House has everything one needs and Caryl and Philippe are lovely hosts. The house is gorgeous, super clean, and with beautiful artwork. The continental breakfast served is a huge selection of pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, granolas, cereals, with different items added each day, such as quiche or boiled eggs. We enjoyed the company of Caryl and other guests at the kitchen table each morning. There is a lovely outside area in the back yard as well. The Hyde Park neighborhood is beautiful, safe and walkable with easy street parking. It was an easy one mile walk to Promontory Point on Lake Shore Drive and a few blocks walk to the Metra. Simply, a great place to stay and we would definitely stay there again whenever in Chicago.

After much research on hotels in the U of Chicago area, we reserved the Green Room for our two night stay. We are so happy we did so! The room was so much more than we expected. Plenty of space for three of us including a separate sitting room with two comfy couches and two chairs, tv, and even some games to play. There was a large dining table with chairs, microwave, small fridge, hot water kettle, and a Nespresso maker. Added touches were utensils and cups, tea and accoutrements, and some yummy chocolates. Plenty of outlets even with USB hubs.

The separate bedroom provided even more space with a desk/chair plus a vanity and bench! Large closet with ironing board and iron, extra pillows, and even a table fan (even though the AC was amazing in the warm mid-September heat). The large bathroom was complete with toiletries, towels, and a towel warmer. Very lovely and clean!

The hosts were so accommodating with everything. They were great communicators and very helpful. Breakfasts were so delicious and plentiful. Delicious fresh fruit, pastries, smoked salmon, cheese, and quite an assortment of hot and cold beverages. We ate our meal on the back porch and enjoyed the lovely garden and listening to the birds.

Free street parking was easy to find right near this historic and beautiful home. Mobile security patrols were also prevalent in the area. We walked to several area restaurants. The host provided an amazing list of information in the room which we found very helpful.

We greatly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return if we end up going back to this area again. Highly recommended!

Had a wonderful stay at the Hamlin House! The room was beautiful and clean, just as pictured. The area was beautiful with several good restaurants and coffee places within walking distance. The hosts were absolutely delightful and we felt so welcomed! The beautiful breakfast spread was a wonderful start to the day, but most of all we enjoyed chatting with the hosts and other guests each morning. I have no complaints! If I ever make it back to Chicago, The Hamlin House is where I’ll stay.

We stayed there in September 2021 for four nights while visiting and touring Chicago. The house was recently completely remodeled and they did a great job - lots of windows and good interior work to make it look clean, bright and fresh. Our room had excellent natural lighting, as well as great artificial lighting at night It was very spacious with a large modern bathroom, double vanity, etc. It was a great location in Hyde Park, very close to University of Chicago. Caryl provided great generous continental breakfast in the dining room with variety, and was caring and and friendly hostess. I left thinking I will miss her! There was good direct mass transit on the train to downtown Chicago. Caryl gave us good guidance on that, and it was easy to get the hang of it. We would come back without hesitation, whenever coming back to Chicago.

The Hamlin House in Hyde Park is, by far, our favorite Bed and Breakfast in Chicago!
It is everything we needed in a home-away-from-home, and more! From the moment you approach the home, in the safe and beautiful neighborhood just a couple short blocks from The University of Chicago campus, you feel at ease. It's a stunning, classic mansion, with spotless hardwood floors and bright natural light throughout the home. Over the past couple of years, I have stayed in various rooms, the Green Room, Blue Room, etc. And, every single room was so beautiful and clean. The owner, Caryl, is the most hospitable, kind, professional, and lovely host of any Bed and Breakfast we've stayed throughout the country. She gives us all the privacy we need, and yet, she is so quick to respond to any of our questions and/or requests.

It is without any hesitation, that I would recommend The Hamlin House in Hyde Park to any family or friend looking for lodging in Chicago.

My daughter and I absolutely loved staying at Hamlin House. It’s in a perfect location for visiting The University of Chicago and Hyde Park. I can’t say enough nice things about the house. It’s absolutely beautiful and our room was perfect. It was beautifully decorated and updated, clean, and felt like home. Caryl was also very nice and, her communication was great. We will definitely stay here again when visiting our son at school.
