Stayed here a couple of times now. The guy who usually works the front desk is always very kind, helpful & well mannered. The guy always meets you with a fist bump & I feel like that’s so cool, it makes him feel more approachable so I like that. Customer service is always exceptional here. The rooms are pretty spacious with cool furniture which I love. If I’m being honest The Gunn House Hotel is my first stop when I know I’m staying in Sonora. I definitely recommend this hotel for sure. There’s so many nice things I could say about this place but definitely stay here.

Though the lobby was pristine and that the room had a few stains it was an okay to decent experience. But due to its age I would recommend this place to elderly people coming to Sonora to visit for the first time. I also recommend the shower and the bed. Please be on the lookout for any other problems. The floor does lean.

The hotel is aold historic hotel. Unfortunately everything inside is also old and hasn't been fixed. We stayed for one night because it was cheap. The toilet had pee already in it, the toilet seat was completely loose, the door knob didn't even close or lock. The bathroom was a frozen ice box, and the toilet barely flushed. The heater in the room was a tiny wall heater that couldn't compete with the gap under the front door breeze blowing in. The free breakfast was all homemade mix of food. The egg casserole they had was burnt around the edges and stuck to the dish. The brownies were burnt and so hard you could not eat them. If you are looking for a dive hotel with four walls and a bed, then this may work for you. The only good part is it is located just at the end of the downtown strip.

As a historic site this was an interesting place to stay, however from a hotel experience it wasn't a great stay. The things this hotel does have going for it are a good sized dedicated parking area (it is gravel and you do have to climb some steep stairs, but for downtown Sonora that is better than street parking) and a very historic site that takes you back to what hotel stays used to be like (including an actual key for your room). The staff were polite and helpful too.

Unfortunately the novelty of staying at a very old hotel wears off quickly when you don't enjoy the actual stay. Our room was very small, dark, and musky, with patches of wall that had been repainted. We didn't take a shower because the tub looked like it had an orange stain or film on the bottom. You had to be careful not to hit your head on the sink when sitting on the toilet. The lighting was very poor throughout, and the old wiring for the wall lamps beside the bed running through the metal headboard made us nervous. But the worst was the floor was starting to sag to one side, so as a result sleeping the normal way on the bed meant we'd be sleeping downhill; we ended up sleeping with our heads at the footboard of the bed instead.

Overall it was an interesting experience, but I don't think we'll be going back again.

Very unprofessional, unfriendly and made us feel like we were a burden to them. We're very polite, considerate and friendly people, so when we were not even welcomed or treated respectfully - by no fault of our own and we also noticed multiple gross situations and a dirty room - then yes - absolutely we're going to let people know about our bad experience!

First, we walked in excited to return to the Gunn House Hotel we stayed at years before. Unfortunately the Gunn House is under new and horrible management. A younger Indian man came to the front desk and offered no welcome or kind remarks, then this man continued to try and hurry us away without properly giving us a moment to ask questions.

So we enter our room and put our belongings away, pull back the covers and sheet of our beds and notice (See pictures) one bed had some me kind of papery material -used kleenex? - inside the sheets and the other bedspread had a BIG stain on it that looked like a urine stain 🀒. We called and requested to be brought new sheets for both the beds. In the morning I went to check out and walked up to the front desk looking for the Indian man that poorly assisted us initially, no one at the front desk. I had to ring the bell for service twice. I heard a television in the office backroom playing some show in an Indian Punjabi language, I said "hello is there anyone back there?" About a minute later a older senior Indian with a turban came out of the back room and couldn't speak English, so he got the original bad attitude young man on his cell phone and held it out so I could talk to him (bad broken English).

While my wife was waiting in the car for me, she saw another Indian man was getting out of his car and stopped (Didn't care who's looking) blew his nose holding each nostril with his finger - then wiped away the snot, I kid you not when I say, this Indian man then continued to walk to the front desk door and with the same snot hand - grabbed the door knob 🀒.

Overall, go anywhere else for a room. Very unclean, unprofessional and poorly managed πŸ‘Ž.

My biggest issue was that there was no fridge or microwave. The room definitely had a "grandma's guest room" vibe. The one chair we had in the room seemed like it was going to fall apart, and it creaked very loudly every time you moved slightly. Instead of the expected early 1900's vibe, it had a old person's dusty rundown house vibe. The guy working seemed nice. The location in Senora is nice. It's in walking distance to some cute boutiques, bars and a great bagel place.

Very picturesque and historic, but not especially friendly to the physically infirm. Because it's historic, don't expect a lot of ADA friendliness, especially in the main building. I don't know about the rest of the hotel, but the main building is the original architecture (high steps and uneven walkways, and very low commode). Younger people may not be affected by this, but some of us older, non-physically fit people might have a more difficult time.

Our Queen room had most of the creature comforts, although I was disappointed that it didn't have a microwave and microfridge, something I've become very used to when I travel. Also, our room was twenty feet from the main street through town, which it made it a little noisy at night. Again, something that can be accepted for the history of the surrounding area.

The man at the reception desk was friendly, and explained about the full breakfast that is provided each morning from 8:00am to 10:00am. However, my wife and I didn't partake, as we had other plans for the day.

I would stay here again, but perhaps in a quieter part of the hotel.

This is an old property but located in a very desirable location. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The private parking was up a steep slope which initially made us uneasy but there was ample space to park and turn the vehicle. The rooms were clean and the amenities were generally inline with what we expected in the price range. I would stay again if visiting the area.
