A lovely old-school hotel very conveniently located for a visit to Northwestern. The room was on the smaller side but decently appointed, the shower was nicely updated while keeping its classic aesthetic. As it’s an older building the elevator is small and slow, but a minor inconvenience. It’s on a fairly quiet residential street though shops and restaurants are just a block away.

Slightly off the track for Chicago proper, this hotel is a charming little spot to enjoy a good nights rest but still be within a stone’s throw of Chicago. Though there is valet parking, there are other options available if you’re able to walk a short distance to the parking ramp yourself. There are some decent restaurants within walking distance if you want some other choices besides the in house restaurant. Bar was fine. Elevator was modest but it wasn’t unreasonably bad. Front desk and door staff were exceptionally friendly. Housekeeping was lovely, room was very clean. Took a while for the unit in the room to get it to the temperature I set it to, but it did work after a while. Overall, I enjoyed my stay very much and look forward to visiting again soon. My grandmother stayed here in 1962 and had our family for dinner at the restaraunt. Great memories. Really nice room with view of lake #814. Great bar. Private event in restaraunt - Great food and service. Special room rates for Mather guests.

The night before we selected a room on the 8th floor. We arrived early and were informed our room was not ready. Therefore, given a room on the 5th floor. Here is my reason for a one star review.

What the front desk failed to inform us the AC is controlled by the top levels. We called and asked for assistance with the AC. The maintenance man brought us a box fan which was not clean. He is the one who informed us the top levels control the AC.

The front desk also decline to acknowledge my Diamond status stating my husband needed to be present. But yet they accepted payment with his credit card. they did not even ask to see ID.

The decorative pillows on bed were dirty and cabinet was full of dust.

This hotel is located is a cute welcoming town. Everything is nearby and within walking distance. The cab service recommended by the front desk arrived promptly. Considering this hotel is located by two well known universities (Northwestern and Loyola) in the mid west, I recommend they fix the AC unit in the building and ask housekeeping to clean more thoroughly.

Stayed for a weekend with plans in downtown Chicago, Roscoe, and Evanston. Great home base for the weekend. 17min to downtown on the purple line express or about an hour on the purple to red. The whole hotel is stylishly appointed and looks like Ralph Lauren hired my grandmother to decorate. A timeless and well curated look and feel. Valet staff are notably the nicest people you'll meet at the hotel — everyone was friendly and accommodating. Will be back.

Me and my wife stayed here recently for part of our honeymoon and can’t say enough good about how nice everyone was, we truly felt right at home. We also have to mention our valet lady who was so kind to us when we arrived late at night, and all through the rest of our stay! I believe her name was either Alicia, or Olivia. She was so kind and by far the most wonderful person we met along our honeymoon trip!

Cute place. Wanted to try it. Beds were ok. Bathroom was really nice but the windows are old and didn’t close well so the bathroom was cold. Very clean. Nice staff but slow and the elevator is cramped. If you need to be close to the area it’s worth a stay.
