If you're looking for a secluded place to spend a few days and have an easy drive to some of trails around the area this is it!

Small cozy homes with a very tranquil setting.

Don't expect luxury, but if all you need is a bed and a kitchen while you freshen up from a long hike as you prepare for the next one, then I highly recommend!

I rented one of the one bedroom homes, it was very spacious and clean. Consider bringing your own pillow, though. Loved sitting on the screened in porch watching the sky change and listening to the birds. Great service, quick to respond to my questions.

Our visit to the one bedroom home once resided in by the lockmasters was full of History. These homes face the Ohio River, and you can enjoy the scenery from a screened in porch. The moon on the water was stunning. If you are looking to get away from it all, try one of these homes. They are fully equipped and decorated with period style Furniture. If you have time, there is an audio tour that you can take of the surrounding town of Golconda. Very small town Illinois! We also ate in two of the neighborhood restaurants which were very good and safe during the Coronavirus.

Daughter, grand-dog and I spent a Wed & Thurs evening in house # 4.||Peaceful during the week. Clean and comfortable. As advertised. Furnished with many antiques (which was fine with me since I love them). Nice sitting on the porch in the evening watching the river roll by. Pretty convenient to the locations we were visiting.||A little stand or something would have been nice-in the bathroom. A little lax on plates and utensils and pots/pans. Just two of us, we got by easily but not sure it would accommodate too many more people.||Needed to get some non-stick spray, but Dollar General is really near-by||Would certainly stay there again. But if I plan on cooking much, I might bring more items.

The past three nights I stayed in the lock and dam homes & I could not ask for a better getaway. The porches have a captivating view of the Ohio River that instantly takes your mind off of all your cares in the world. And after the year the world has had, hidden gems like the lock and dam homes is exactly what I needed. Thank you for remodeling these extraordinary buildings and renting them out. You’ve given me the reset I needed to get back to life. I will definitely visit again and again.

Louise H. I spent 3 days here recently. This is my second time. The house is furnished in beautiful antiques. The view is beautiful overlooking the Ohio river. So calming and peaceful. I plan to go back next year. Prices are very reasonable.. Also lots of places around the area to explore.

The four former lock keepers houses sit right above the Ohio River and have a wonderful view of the river and the sunrise. At the end of a dead end street, there is complete privacy at his location. The house have been meticulously restored to their original look and filled with period antiques. They are roomy and homey. The only complaints we had was NO INTERNET and they keep the houses at 80 degrees. YOu can adjust the AC, but in houses this old it takes many hours for them to cool down. As we were staying there in mid July we were very hot.

Fantastic place! We stayed in house number 1. So peaceful, the Ohio River is literally out back. Love the 1920s restoration decor. Feels like a place out of time and I hope to come back again.
