This B&B is a cozy looking and otherwise pleasant place except for one significant, not-so-minor detail. Cats freely roam throughout the house. The website says “pet-friendly” but to my thinking, that does not include pets roaming freely everywhere in the house. I am very allergic to cats and I felt very threatened by the situation. Of course, we had no other place to stay, but I had my meds with me and I doped up for the night. By morning, I had to use my albuterol inhaler. The owner met with us for breakfast and we had a pleasant chat about many things. However, neither he nor the gentleman who greeted us on our arrival seemed very sympathetic to my allergies. They need to either fully disclose the presence of cats throughout the house, or remove the cats entirely.

Fluffy pillows, (Grandma's) feather bed, a host who made us feel very welcome, and who made breakfast for us, also - a delicious frittata!! It was a beautiful early 1900's house! ||Gotta warn you, tho, he loves his cats and they love having company! We saw BB and CC - heard there was another, but never saw him. They are very affectionate and love being petted!

Location for the home is excellent and on a reasonably safe street. Host is very genial and communicative. Breakfast was great and served at a good hour. However...

CATS

At no place, no web site, no pre arrival information does the host list having 2 cats wandering around the home. I'm not sure how you can advertise on your website that you are hypoallergenic when you have cats. The cats try to get in to guest rooms. They sit on top of doorways. They wail in the hallway in the middle of the night. Very disturbing, PLUS the fact that one member of our party is allergic. To say nothing of the mattress that felt like something I would sleep on as a kid at Boy Scout camp.

The hotel options in Hannibal are pretty slim, so you are pretty much reduced to using a B&B. If you love cats, this would probably be a great place. We, however, will not be returning.

This place is really a find. A beautiful old house, nice owner, and clean. There are a few indoor cats - for me that was a big plus! I miss my cat while traveling. Everything seemed very clean, with good quality pillows and linens. Bed a little soft for me but you may love it. Don't be put off by the front porch which is set up for a few outdoor cats - inside is much nicer. If you hate cats or are prone to crawling under the bed in search of a stray hair this is maybe not your place. I hope I get a chance to stay here again.

This was about my 10th visit to the Garden House. I absolutely adore it and I consider Chris, the owner, to be a friend. I really enjoy the atmosphere and bohemian and eclectic decor. Chris is an excellent host and cook, so breakfasts are to die for. I am a cat lover and the indoor cats are quite amusing and sometimes sleep with me. The restaurant a block down the street called La Binnah Bistro is perhaps the best place I have ever eaten and I have never had a dish that was not extremely tasty and excellent. I actually make a longer trip to my travelling destination to enjoy both the b and b and the restaurant. I really can’t sing the praises loud enough!

We just stayed there last weekend and had a great experience. Chris contacted us in the AM and asked when we planned to arrive. He was there when we got there. Rooms are very nice and cozy. I was nervous about sharing the bathroom, but it wasn’t a problem at all. Breakfast was simple, but delicious. The house was walking distance to everything we wanted see and do. Parking was easy and right outside home. He does have lots of cats on the property, all where very friendly and not in the actual bedrooms. Chris was a great host that had many neat stories to listen to! Definitely would love to go back! Great experience all around! Make sure to hit up La binnah a few doors down for dinner! It was delicious!!

Chris put on a great tasty breakfast each morning. We talked and he shared history about the home and Hannibal which is also within walking distance to town and all of the attractions except the caves and riverboat. Had a wonderful dinner at Labina owned by Chris as well. Fell in love with the home and Hannibal cant wait to go back. Loved it so much been thinking about retiring there.
Oh and no need for the ghost tour if you stay at Garden House.😉

We stayed at the Garden House B&B on a Friday evening. The owner Chris told us the History of the home and made us feel very welcome. There was only one other couple staying the same evening. The room was cozy and warm. We stayed in the East room with a view of the Might Mississippi River!! The B&B are dog friendly and our little French Bulldog and Maltese had a wonderful time smelling everything around them. In the morning Chris made a wonderful breakfast and we had a great conversation with Chris and the other couple who we’re staying. We Love Hannibal and everything Mark Twain so this town is a delight. I have NO idea how anyone gave bad reviews of this B&B. It was simply charming.
