This was a very relaxing place. Ruth was very kind and brought us coffee and treats to eat for breakfast and snacks. The only reason for the 4 on the room is we picked a poor time of year to go The Asian beetles were abundant to say the least. We live in the country so it is well known when the fields are harvested, it kicks the beetles out of their home. It is located close to Galena but out enough to feel secluded. We grilled a few nights, it was nice to have a grill for sure. I even made bacon on it one morning.

The location was great and super close to Galena but these are RUSTIC cabins. Lots of bugs and everything feels just a little off. The animals didn't look like they were malnourished or not taken care of like other reviews have been posted. Ruth was very nice. The place just feels like it's been forgotten and gone down hill.

The owner was amazing.. The experience was so positive.. We came to get away and got so much more.. Having a whole cabin to yourself for the price of a hotel room. Alpacas in the morning. Never once touched the TV.. Watched the fireplace and spent time together instead. What an experience. I left with my spirit renewed. Highly recommend. Everyone needs this at some time or another. Good for the soul.

My friends and I had an amazing weekend at Galena Log Cabin Getaway. We had fun with the alpacas, explored Galena, grilled, watched the stars, roasted marshmallows, and enjoyed the cozy cabins. The Getaway is an easy drive to downtown Galena but maintains a relaxing out in nature feel. We found the cabins warm and spacious, with everything we could possibly need from camp chairs to a comfy living room set and two beds. Ruth, the owner, was a delight and so thoughtful. She prepared us breakfast baskets each day and made sure we had enough wood for our fire at night. In between, she periodically gave us tips on things to do, shared some stories, and gave us treats with which to coax the alpacas over to us. If you want a camping getaway but don’t want to stay in a tent, this might be just the answer for you. The stars were spectacular. We are already discussing future trips to this wonderful retreat.

We had a great time this weekend visiting Galena and staying at the log cabin. Ruth was incredibly sweet and helpful before and throughout our stay. The dark site made it amazing for star gazing and the area was so peaceful day and night. The Alpacas in the property were great, the kids enjoyed interacting with them (from a distance). I have nothing negative to say but just that the water has lots of minerals so the smell is inevitable! Bathrooms could use a slight upgrade but if you’re into the “olden days” feel, everything will be perfect for you.

The Galena Log Cabin Getaway is a fun little place to escape the city, but it's definitely NOT a resort. I went with my 74 year old mom and my 2 daughters (tween and teen). The cabin is more spacious than a typical hotel room with a queen bed on the main level as well as a bathroom, mini-fridge and microwave, and then a full size bed in the loft. The main level also has a TV and fireplace (which I didn't use, but there was firewood available). The location is about 4 miles from Galena and we drove into town for lunches and dinner--there were great restaurants in town. Another perk was the breakfast basket dropped off the night before with fresh fruit, coffee, and muffins (and there was yogurt in the fridge). The stars at night were UNBELIEVEABLE--even my 11 year old child was WOWED by the night sky. ||There are nearby hikes, but you have to drive to them--we went to Casper Bluff where you can see the Mississippi River--about 2-3 miles away. Another nearby hike, Horsehoe Mound, is only about 1 mile away but it was closed (for hunting) and we didn't get opportunity to do that hike. The alpaca herd of 6 females graze right in front of the cabins, and Ruth, the owner, involved the kids in feeding them carrots, which was fun. Ruth was incredibly friendly and will remain a part of the memorable experience. I will say that the first night we were there, with warm weather, there was an active colony of wasps flying around (including some that got inside the cabin) but as the weather cooled off, then we weren't bothered by the wasps. (Ruth told me that she has a pest control company scheduled to come out soon for the wasp problem.) There's no "staff" at the hotel--it's really just the owners--but easy to reach them by text if you have questions. The place is definitely no frills so if you want someplace fancy or just equal to what your home is, then this isn't for you. However, if you want a true getaway from the city, and think that "rustic" = adventure, then you'll have a lot of fun staying here.

Let me start with, before I stayed, there were some good reviews and a few not so good. At the end of my stay, I can honestly say that the good don't do it full justice and I'm shaking my head where the bad came from (maybe a very negative person or just a bad day?) Ruth is the host and and very young at heart. I made a last minute booking due to a birthday weekend breakup with my girlfriend. Myself and a 2 yr old beagle made the trip and tried to salvage my birthday and sanity. Ruth was the Angel in disguise to make that happen. She will and did go above and beyond to make my stay very memorable. She even brought me a birthday cupcake! From the outside, the cabin looks authentic like a page from Lincoln's biography. there is a main floor bedroom as well as a loft. A gas fireplace and a jetted tub as well as a fridge and micro. Since it's well water, the host provides bottled water. There were a few items in the fridge and she also provided kind of a welcome basket with breakfast items and fruit. As a sports fan, it was nice to know I could catch my favorite games on their satellite tv. They even had the Cubs Marque Network. Ruth was very helpful getting my bonfire started and to get my fireplace going for the season. The country surroundings and sometimes wandering alpacas made for a very peaceful and tranquil stay. A huge stress breaker! While you feel isolated, the farm is a short 10 minute drive to beautiful downtown Galena. There's not enough space or time to describe every act of kindness from the host or every great attribute of the property or surroundings. God willing, I be back again and I hope you have the opportunity to experience this little piece of heaven on earth as well!

My husband and I stayed here for one night for an an anniversary and baby moon get away. We had read reviews but decided to give it a shot. Ruth was there and super sweet and nice. Yes the place has older details but it’s a cabin and secluded so we were not expecting a hotel feel. When we arrived our cabin was ready and very peaceful. It reminded me of staying at grandmas house as a little girl. I enjoyed the natural feel of the place. We will be going back once the baby is older and bringing a long our other two children. Ruth talked to us and I found out her husband passed not long ago. She is doing a great job!
