If you want a truly unique stay in Galena, IL then be sure to add the Galena Inn to the top of your list. This 1800s mansion is beautifully maintained and has a rich history including appearances by Ulysses S Grant himself! The rooms rooms are large and really show off the character of the home, each being uniquely decorated to make you feel like you stepped back in time. Yet, the bathrooms have been fully updated with beautiful glass showers, mosaic tile, and more so you’re never sacrificing on creature comforts. We stayed in the Lincoln room and it was so nice. The house sits atop the hill overlooking downtown Galena, and is within walking distance to all the restaurants and shopping Main Street has to offer. I would 100% stay here again.

We absolutely loved our weekend at the historic Galena Inn! The innkeeper (Paulina) was an excellent communicator and she made sure we were comfortable during the entire stay. She gave us very clear instructions on how to do self check in and we had no issues upon our arrival.

The location was also convenient; we were able to walk everywhere we needed -- shops, restaurants, nature walks.

Our room was very well maintained, clean, spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast food was also excellent. I personally appreciated that there was a keurig available 24/7 😊 Highly recommend!

This B&B was our favorite of all the places we've stayed in Galena. It's such a beautiful home. Paulina our inn keeper was the best part about the stay. She greeted us at the door and gave us a tour of the home and went over the history of the building. She showed us to our room and answered all our questions with a smile. She was so hospitable and sweet. We stayed in the Jackson room located on the 2nd floor. We are both still thinking about how comfortable the bed was. Best night's sleep ever! The room was spacious and had it's own tub and walk in shower. The whole inn was immaculately clean. We were given two bottles of complimentary water and candy was left for us on the dresser. In the morning we went down for breakfast. Paulina greeted us and asked us if we'd like berry pancakes and sausage. When I tell you these pancakes were so good, they were like eating a slice of cake. When we complimented the pancakes, Paulina hand wrote the recipe down for us and instructions on how to make them. It was such a sweet thing for her to do. Now we can take a literal slice of galena home to share with the kids. At breakfast there was fresh coffee, juices, fresh fruits, bagels, and english muffins with butter and cream cheese set out. In addition Paulina was cooking made to order eggs, ham and cheese quiche, and the berry sheet pan pancakes. Everything was really well prepared and delicious. When it was time for check out, we stayed for a while just talking with Paulina. She is so down to earth and genuine. She was made to run an inn. Without her, the stay would not be as pleasant. The whole experience was just lovely and we are already planning our next stay.

Girlfriend and I were lucky to snag a last minute stay in the off season. We both loved the host, Paulina, and everything about our stay in the Jackson room. We still talk about how comfortable the bed was, and will be making the pancake cake recipe she shared with us for our kids. The home is beautiful and the hospitality is exactly what you hope for when booking a B&B. Also very close to the main street and plenty of parking.

What a fantastic place! Paulina is a fantastic host, so warm, friendly, and accommodating. We didn't want for anything. The place is clean and has a historic charm. It's updated in all the right places with really nice private bathrooms and a nice shower with great water pressure! The linens are crisp and clean, the towels are soft and fluffy. The central spiral stairway is elegant, and the floors creak in just the right places reminding you that the house is over 150 years old. Much of the window glass you can tell is really old, and the doors are old with old locks but they close and lock perfectly. They have done an excellent job keeping the house in great repair without replacing items with modern replacements, keeping the old items functional. There is lots of old artwork including a giant life-size portrait of Martha Washington in the foyer. It's close to downtown and you can walk there down a long tall stairway with a great view,( but remember the walk back is uphill). We stayed in winter and the house was warm and not drafty. The bathroom had an electric heater so you weren't cold getting out of the shower. The breakfast was top notch, home made quiche and pancakes, fresh fruit and juices. Truly a great experience!

3 of us girls did a run away weekend and had a blast here. We were upgraded to a 2 room suite by the owner to give us more room. Outdoor hot tub was fun and our on site host, Brad was more than accommodating. Great beds and such history ....We will be back!

Perfect place for a romantic weekend or a girls weekend! We stayed in the Primrose room on the third floor and it was beautiful and so cozy and comfortable. It even had a gas fireplace! Bathroom was very nice too. The furnishings were period appropriate and well taken care of. Breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful dining room. Owners were friendly and shared their love for the mansion. Reasonably priced and close to shopping and restaurants. We will definitely return. Treat yourself!

Came here for a mini ski trip and would definitely return. Paulina was a very welcoming, attentive host. I was pleased with the Julia Suite, breakfast and overall stay. The mansion is also so beautiful and I felt right at home.
