DO NOT STAY HERE – SERIOUS SAFETY, PRIVACY, AND DISCRIMINATION CONCERNS

This property is a nightmare. They charge an outrageous $1,800 for a basic two-bed unit – not even a full apartment with essentials like a stove or sink. For less, you could rent a proper two-bedroom apartment elsewhere with complete living amenities.

The room was disgusting from the moment we arrived. It was immediately clear that nothing had been cleaned. My brother found random items in his bedding, and I found false eyelashes glued to the bed comforter, proving that the linens hadn’t been washed or even inspected before our stay. The lack of basic cleanliness was shocking, and we were forced to buy our own towels because those provided were unusable. Additionally, only one of the beds had a mattress cover, which made it apparent that they knew about the visible blood stains on the uncovered mattress and simply chose to ignore it rather than properly address the issue.

To make matters worse, there were no fire alarms installed – a basic safety requirement. This place is not only unsanitary but also unsafe. And if you decide to leave early, don’t expect any reimbursement. They outright refused to refund us for the days we didn’t stay, essentially stealing three days’ worth of payment from my brother.

Privacy Violations and Unauthorized Entry:
The most disturbing issue was the lack of respect for guest privacy and safety. Illinois lodging laws (Illinois Innkeeper Protection Act) require that property management notify guests or announce themselves before entering a room, but this was blatantly disregarded.

To avoid issues, I initially responded politely to messages from the property manager, hoping he wouldn’t act weirdly toward me or my brother. Unfortunately, he took my friendliness as an invitation. He began texting excessively, asking where I was going, sending inappropriate messages with wink faces, hearts, and even calling me his “best friend.” Some of these messages he later deleted, which only added to the discomfort. Eventually, I drew the line and blocked him, but that only seemed to escalate his behavior.

The worst incident came when he let himself into my room without notice. Just the day before, my brother had explicitly told him we didn’t want their “cleaning service” (we’d bought our own supplies due to their poor cleaning). Knowing my brother’s car was gone, he came by the next day, didn’t announce himself, and entered my room without permission. I was alone, having already blocked his number to avoid further harassment. I was genuinely scared when I realized he was in my room, and I had to gather all the courage I had to shout, “NO, don’t ever do that again! Don’t come in here uninvited and unwelcome!” This was an abuse of power – inappropriate, illegal, and a violation of my privacy and safety. After he quickly shut the door and left, I opened it and asked why he felt the need to barge into my room. He walked down the sidewalk and pointed vaguely toward a cleaning cart that wasn’t even nearby, claiming he was there to “clean.” The entire interaction was terrifying and unsettling.

Health and Safety Violations:
The lack of cleanliness, complete absence of basic hygiene standards, and failure to install fire alarms all demonstrate a total disregard for health and safety regulations. Under Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) standards, hotels are required to provide clean and safe accommodations, which this property has utterly failed to do.

Harassment and Discrimination:
A neighbor shared that the front desk staff, possibly the owner, told him and his Black friends they couldn’t stand outside for fresh air because, as she put it, “there are white people here.” This vile, racist comment suggested that Black guests were perceived as a threat to white guests. The Illinois Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or other protected characteristics, and such open racism and prejudice were shocking and completely unacceptable.
