We had a rare disappointing experience at the Fairfield in Mt Vernon.
The good:
Friendly staff
Hotel was clean albeit under some updating
The bad:
Breakfast (I know it was a hotel breakfast) but was letdown from what is normaly served at the marriot chains; weird grainy mushy eggs, few choices of continental items. Attendant was hustling and friendly though!
Our room... I'm not sure if it was just this room or if all the rooms had this issue. The musty wet mold smell was so overpowering. We left bath fan on all night to draw out bad air and had the wall unit on all night too. The takeout from b dubs smell overshadowed it to allow us to fall asleep but I woke up at 4am and couldn't fall back asleep because the pillows had such a pungent musty mold smell to them that I couldn't have my head on the pillow. And the beds not good either.
I hope this was just an outlier and it will be corrected, but if it's not there could be some unseen mold issues.

We made an online reservation for a handicap accessible room months prior to our stay. Upon arrival when I asked the clerk to confirm that we were getting a handicap accessible room, he said there was a problem. He said yes we did reserve a handicap accessible room, but that the hotel had sold out for that night, and they did not have an accessible room for us. He did not know how or why the mixup happened. He put us in a regular room. A week later, I filed a complaint on the Marriott web site. A Marriott manager responded to the complaint saying that my preferences on my profile did not state accessible room. I then responded to his email stating that I had indeed reserved an accessible room and that the clerk on duty acknowledged that I had reserved an accessible room. My email to him stated such and asked him to contact the clerk on duty that night to confirm. He said he would do so. A week later with no follow up from him, I again emailed asking him to confirm the facts with the clerk on duty that night. I heard nothing back from him. So apparently, he has no interest in performing basic and simple customer service. I am surprised at Marriott because I thought they had a better reputation than that. My wife had a very difficult time in the standard room because the toilet in a standard room is so low that it is extremely difficult for her to get off the toilet. If you need an accessible room, or if want good customer service, beware.

Easy enough to find with restaurants close by. Front desk had our rooms and keys ready. Clean and comfortable was our stay. Wish they had hot coffee in the lobby 24 hours like other hotels.

Was traveling through and this was a good stopping point on our trip. Room was dirty and hotel was in need of an update. Keep looking if you are wanting a nice room for what they charge!

Tried to book a room for an employee being a Business account and Gretchen was not helpful at all. Being an Ambassador and renting rooms all of the United States and don't have this problem. Sent the confirmation to her phone and they wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam , wanted a id and card from me instead of just id of the person checking in, room was reserved and paid for by the card on file.

Friendly staff, clean hotel. Needs some attention from ownership.

Largest issues:
Water only got slightly above room temperature for showers. This occurred during the evening hours, probably when most of the rest of the hotel was getting a shower in before laying down to sleep. At 0530 the water was a lot warmer. This is atypical for the Marriott brand, other hotels did not fluctuate as much in water temperature due to usage.

Elevator sounds like a reasonably loud kitchen blender. Unfortunately this appears to be the norm for Marriott, elevator maintenance appeared to be little concern in the last dozen plus Marriotts I’ve stayed in this past year.

Off putting smell as you enter. Unsure what it is, but it was there over the course of a dozen plus hours.

Room door didn’t close by default. The door was off-kilter or something. Open the door all the way and let it close, and it doesn’t; not to the point where the lock engages and someone can’t walk into your room. First hotel I’ve stayed at in a while where the door closing didn’t automatically make it lock. It’s possible tension on the locking mechanism or something needs adjusted.

Other:
Free breakfast is rather typical, orange juice tasted odder than usual.

TV/streaming service on TV was well above average for a Marriott

First time at this hotel. Warm reception. Room clean, bed comfortable, and all other accommodations found in working order. We are Marriott Bonvoy members, have stayed at many locations and were not dissatisfied with this stay in any way. Located conveniently short rocks toss from I-57 and many other convenient stores to get your day going.

Positive: "" Negative: The listing said it slept 3 people but when we got there, it was a tiny room with only a king bed in the middle. There was barely enough room to make a pallet on the floor for my son. The elevator was really loud, and we could hear it in our room.
