We got to stay in the modest Swallows Nest which is a small room at the front of the mansion. It was cozy for what we needed. The property is gorgeous with beach access. We went stargazing on the beach and it was magical.

We had mixed experiences with the in-room breakfast. The first day was great, but the second day we were missing some items. We weren’t sure the best way to contact them since their office opens after breakfast is served.

We stayed in January, so I’m not sure if the dining room is typically closed during the off season. It looks like the dining room was open at one point in time. We would have loved to dine there for dinners. They did offer an in-room dinner option, but we opted to leave our rooms because that is our preference.

In all, we would definitely come back because it’s such a beautiful place and we like having breakfast to start our day. I’d just wonder if there were more opportunities to have more communication with the staff when the office is closed and to not be confined to our rooms for a meal.

Put the Elk Cove Inn at the top of your lodging list on the Mendocino coast! The rooms are well-appointed, comfortable, clean and spacious. Whitewater ocean views from the rooms are nothing short of spectacular. Delicious full breakfasts including mimosas are delivered to your room each morning. And there is a gourmet restaurant on site with a great menu, excellent wine list and ocean views. We just returned from our first visit and are planning our return soon.

My wife and I stayed there because we attended a family wedding near by. It was a great place to stay, the room was very comfortable and well appointed. Close to the cove/beach so we were able to walk down to the water. Very nice and helpful staff. The included breakfast was good and was delivered to our room every morning as scheduled.

Elk was gorgeous and so relaxing! |Our room overlooked the beautiful ocean where we got to see the sunset and tons of stars from the balcony. The bed was very comfortable and we slept great. One of the highlights was the delicious food. We dined for dinner our first night and breakfast was delivered straight to the room each morning. We will definitely be coming back!

The magic here is the service. Warm and welcoming. It is attentive without being overly intrusive. There was a welcome basket, we arrived on a Sunday evening and there was a "social hour" happening on the deck with wine, cheese and crackers. We stayed in the wave watcher room, with a huge bathroom complete with a soaking tub and a giant walk in shower with amazing water pressure. It's a sweet little room, with a big picture window and cozy chairs to watch the beach. The bed was comfortable, the fireplace adding to the coziness. Breakfast is brought to your room, and was delicious, do not skip the croissants! We had dinner in their cozy dining room and watched the sunset while we ate. They grow food they serve, they have goats and the innkeeper makes goat cheese. All adding to the charm. We opted for their bonfire kit, that included wood, wine and smores makings, and walked to the beach after dinner, built a fire and watched the stars. For two days we relaxed, the grounds are full of plants, flowers, a beautiful view of the ocean. And although the highway is right above you, we never heard any traffic noise, in fact part of the charm was how quiet this space was. Overall I would say it's rustic, a little dated, but amazing service, good food, peaceful grounds and a beautiful backdrop to relax in.

We have been to Elk Cove about 3 other times. This time under new ownership. Elk Cove still has the same charm and comfort as before. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable and the view is beautiful. There are a couple of wonderful additions and they are now having breakfast delivered to your room and the addition to having a restaurant on site. The dinner we had was absolutely wonderful. You will not be disappointed if you stay here. We shall return again.

We enjoyed our one night stay in the Cliffside Covey room, which has a beautiful unobstructed ocean view. While the room was not overly large, it made a good use of the space, fitting in 2 beds (1 queen and 1 twin with a wall in between). We particularly enjoyed the complimentary meals which was nicely delivered at our door. We were surprised by the spread of food given that it was included in the nightly rate (breakfast is complimentary and they had a January special for a complimentary dinner for 2).

The property is peaceful and quiet with easy access to the beach below. Also pet-friendly which was a plus for us with our 2 dogs. They also had 3 dogs onsite who liked to say hello to guests in the parking lot.

Overall, we'd be happy to come back during our next stay in Elk.

Stunning views, cozy rooms, and delicious food—including breakfast in bed! Melissa, the incredible host, went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. She even prepared custom meals for our dog on short notice and coordinated EV charging to ensure we could leave on time in the morning. Her warm hospitality and attention to detail truly set this place apart. Highly recommend!
