Buzz’n Bean will get you buzzin’!

I discovered this place while out in Colorado, actually. While looking up coffeehouses on our way to Santa Fe, my phone was seemingly still in Central Illinois and somehow showed me this place. I quickly screenshot it and made a note to try and it out ASAP when I got home. Who knew it would be the day after my plane landed.

Emily and I popped in on a bright and early morning. We were greeted by some super friendly baristas who had the sad news of telling us their espresso machine was currently down. What luck I have for that to have happened to me twice in the span of a week, the other time was at Red Silo Coffee in Golden, CO.

Luckily, I like all kinds of coffee so I got a giant iced coffee in their biggest cup possible. Emily got a cold brew with foam. We took our drinks and sat at one of the tables to get caffeinated. The table we sat at was a bit odd and had a slope to it, like it wasn’t properly anchored to the wall. Luckily, we noticed it a bit early and wasn’t an issue for our coffee, overall.

While we sat there, I kept eyeing their cookies and Emily said a muffin sounded good. She got a chocolate-y chocolate one and I got a basic cookie. They were served in to-go containers, which was a surprise since a simple plate would’ve been more than sufficient since we were eating in. The cookie was really good and Emily let me try her muffin. It was warmed up and the inside was nice and gooey. A perfect accompaniment to my iced coffee, even if I only had a few small bites. The coffee I had wasn’t too bad. It didn’t blow me away but it didn’t disappoint with how it tasted. I’m not sure if it was a flavored or styled coffee or if it was basic without any special notes.

Here are my only negative things to note: The leaning tables being one thing I would fix asap so people can avoid having their stuff possibly slide off. It wasn’t a severe lean and I don’t remember if all the tables were like that but it could cause some issues for people less attentive. Another minor tweak is to have small plates (even use disposable if washing dishes isn’t feasible) for single baked goods instead of a small hinged to-go container.

Other than that, Buzz’n Bean has potential to be a great staple for Pekin.

Side note: They do have some merch for sale and the little coffeepot mascot they have on their shirts really makes me want to go back and buy one.

Walking in I was greated with a smile by a very upbeat employee, I was greated while she was still working on another order which felt welcoming. The coffee was good, considering I drink black coffee I can be picky, the sandwich was good and very affordable. Getting a coffee and a sandwich for under $9 feels like a deal anymore. They have all the syrups and flavors you could want, highly recommend it.

As soon as I walked in I felt welcomed. Staff was amazing and informative. Drink was fantastic. The place is so inviting. Will definitely be back.

I went there 1/5/25 and the cashier was literally so nice and the lady making the drink was too, the place is lovely and it's most definitely a new favorite im obsessedddd

Place is great! It’s where Jimmy John’s used to be by Krogers. Rather go there than Starbucks.
