Broken Tart is hands down the best bakery in Oak Park. The Kale Salad scone is the best scone I've ever had in my life. The chocolate chip ricotta cake is to die for. The sweet scones (when they have them) have always been amazing. The biscuits are tasty as well - seasoned to perfection. Love the smoothies and espresso drinks too. The staff is friendly and welcoming, despite often having a line out the door! I would skip the rosemary scone if you go and definitely get the kale and/or sweet. I've gotten a couple mini cakes as well, one of which was unfortunately pretty dry (this one was a carrot cake - maybe just a one off miss, since BT has usually been so good), but the other was amazing (some kind of hazelnut chocolate I believe). The regular bakery items have never disappointed! Cakes are also aesthetically beautiful, which is always a plus.

If you're in the area, you HAVE TO go!! This is such a great little shop; emphasis on little. It can get a little tight in there when busy, but it's worth the wait! The outdoor seating is great when the weather is good. My husband and I usually order a couple of things to go, including coffee. We always get the savory & sweet biscuits and the kale salad scone, because, health. The staff is always so welcoming, especially in the morning, and they are always quick to serve up a great latte!

Very solid bakery, would definitely recommend. The cookie was my favorite it had this amazing gooey texture in the center and was crispy on the edges. But I wouldn’t get the Cookies N Cream one since it was pretty flavorless. They should add white chips to it. The savory biscuit I got was so fresh but needed more jalapeno jam I couldn’t taste any of it. The ricotta chip cake was good but I wouldn’t get it again. My least favorite was the muffin it was pretty flavorless

I had the most amazing coffee cake today at the broken tart, so delicious that I had to get some baked goods to go. If you enjoy hearty scrumptious, crusty outside with the perfect velvety inside you’re in the right place.

Coffee is great, their selection of baked goods is fantastic!!!

Thank you broken tart!!!

Amazing bakery in north Oak Park. On any given morning you can find a line out the door and for good reason! I’ve had several items and they are all delicious. The rosemary apricot scone, savory biscuit with cheese and hot honey, sweet biscuit with rotating jam, cookies, citrus olive oil cake, and financiers are all wonderful. They also have coffee cake, muffins, loaves and other rotating seasonal goodies. Coffee is great too! Staff is very friendly. Run, don’t walk here!

OMG WOW! Amazing bakery! I go to tons of bakeries & I think this is the best one in Oak Park & one of the best in Chicagoland! I LOVED everything I tried from the cookies, to muffins to scones. Super high quality & extremely fresh products. Some of the pastries were still warm from the oven as I got there right at 8 am when they open. Even then, there was a little line out the door. Many people got coffee drinks but I didn’t this time. They also have $2 wonky cookies (just weirdly shaped cookies) that are a great deal. I tried: chocolate chip cookie, banana bread, vegan chocolate muffin (extra delish), goat cheese chili scone (excellent) & the wonky birthday cookie (amazing & buttery - melts in your mouth). Can’t wait to go back & try other things! Please note the place is tiny with only a few tables & chairs & there’s metered street parking so I took my order to go.

10.25.24 update: the kale salad done is truly amazing! The toasted coconut cake was sooo good and the chiffon cake was delightful. The savory corn biscuit was good but I preferred the scone, which is totally worth traveling for.

We took cappuccinos and olive oil cake. It was delicious. It’s been a long time here in the area, didn’t drink a good cappuccino like this.
Good quality coffee beans.

Cute little shop. Super friendly staff Thursday morning when I was there even though they seemed busy the young lady helping me did not make me feel rushed. Absolutely loved the apricot and rosemary scone! The Georgie cake was also good. But that scone, I will be back for!! For people looking to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright house this is a great stop for a light breakfast /snack or coffee before or after your tour it's a block or so right up the street, or if you just want to wander the neighborhood and look at the gorgeous homes.
