My boyfriend and I loved staying here! We were traveling on a rte. 66 little weekend roadtrip from Chicago area to Funksgrove and decided to stay the night. I found Big Horse through Google reviews and it did not disappoint. For $98 it gave everything we needed and more, along with a unique place to stay! Convenient self check in/out. It was clean and comfortable and we loved the Amish furniture and cabin like vibe. The Inn provided wonderful extras, such as water and snacks in the lobby, a fan for those who sleep with one, makeup wipes and towel, Hulu on Roku, a fridge, brochures and info for the area, chocolate/mints. The shower was nice and just overall can't say enough about the comfort and cleanliness for such a reasonable price. We will be back!
The Black Maple Cafe attached the hotel was fresh and yummy for breakfast.
As a previous reviewer mentioned the walls are very thin and can hear most conversations but wasn't a bother so much.

We are originally from Lewistown and were in town visiting family for the holidays, so booked a room at Big Horse Inn. It was the second time I’ve stayed there, but the first for my sister.

The rooms are very comfortable, and extra clean. Shoot out to the housekeeping staff for keeping it in such great condition. We had a great stay. The only minor thing was I wished the bathroom had better lighting or a lighted makeup mirror so I could see better to put in contacts, put on makeup, etc. Not a deal killer, just would be nice.

I’m so glad our hometown has a nice place to stay, especially since our parents have a small home with only one bath, so it gets crazy with all the family there. Nice to have a quiet, comfortable retreat like Big Horse Inn.

My sister and I stayed here over the holidays since my parents still live here. We were not disappointed, the rooms were clean and pretty quiet. We were basically here to sleep and shower and we had no problems. The only little quibble we might have had was linens, we wish they had put extra in the bathroom since they were closed Christmas Eve and Day, but it was not a biggie for us. Thank you for the comfortable stay! 😁

Very clean and comfortable accommodations in a unique building that is a quiet alternative to corporate hotel chains. We liked the cabin theming and rustic styled but new furniture and comfortable beds. Excellent customer service. We stayed overnight on our road trip down the Illinois River. Cute coffee shop with delicious breakfast sandwiches attached to the inn and a nice diner down the street. I left behind my raincoat, and they mailed it to me.

I'm very fond of this place. It's definitely not an old, rundown, smalltown inn ... the building is newish, and the amenities are modern. The only downside is what feels like a cold, hard concrete floor under the thin-ish carpet, but the high temp the day I really noticed it was 8°. I've stayed here three times and I will probably stay again in the future. Between the room, the lobby, and the restaurant, everything I needed was in the building. Snacks, coffee (k pods), and other beverages are available 24-7. It's 100% self-check-in & check-out, but the staff is a phone call away.

Booked a room online (live local) through booking.com only to find out when I arrived, not to do this (note at desk). Needless to say, I was charged on my credit card and received no room. I contacted both booking.com and Big Horse Inn, but never received refund (each blaming the other).

We were biking across United States and needed someplace reasonable, clean and comfortable to stay. This place was exactly that and more; easy check-in, spacious, and tastefully decorated. We love this small family owned hotel. And MUST visit the awesome coffee shops next door!

I really wanted to love this place, because I love supporting small family owned business, but there were so many problems the night we stayed. Firstly, our room (#7) was musty when we checked in at 5pm. I turned the AC on and it helped but within 10-15 minutes of it shutting off the mustiness was overwhelming. So we had to run the thermostat at 68 freeze all night. Secondly, the other reviews that mention “paper thin walls” and loud traffic noises are 100% correct. We stayed on a Friday night and other guests were coming and going all night and it was all SO LOUD. Three other guests checked in (or came back after a night out) between 10:45 and 2am. The people in the room next to us left late evening and then showed back up at 1am drunk and loud. Once they quieted down & went to bed I could hear them clear as day through the wall snoring and farting. And lastly, the rooms themselves are ok. A little run down. The beds hurt my husbands back and the bathroom floor tile was cracked/lifted at the doorway. A trip hazard for sure.
I think the self check in and no front desk employee at night leaves people to do whatever they want at all hours with very little regard for other guests. This place only has 12 rooms and like I said above, several other guests left and returned after midnight with loud door slamming, laughing and horn honking. Beware if you think you’re going to have a nice, quiet night in a small hotel in a small town—like we thought.
