Best Western Plus Chena River Lodge - Fairbanks, Alaska

We came up to Alaska to see the Northern Lights, but had a day's layover in Fairbanks. ||This Best Western is an older hotel that needs some updating, but the room is very large, clean, the bed comfortable, the staff pleasant, sturdily built so their isn't noise from room to room, a good shower, and the breakfast very good. ||It has the advantage of being within walking distance of Fred Meyer so we were able to walk over to get all the things that we didn't want to pack from home. ||The disadvantages is that the advertised shuttle service from the airport has been discontinued so it cost us $25 for a taxi to the hotel, the wifi is poor at best, and as I mentioned, it does need some refreshing (chipped furniture and some chipped paint) Despite the room size, there is only one chair in the room, and there is only one stand to put your luggage on. ||It isn't fancy, but I would recommend it for a layover on your way north.

Never had to write a bad review but I came to Fairbanks from anchorage on a long drive and I came to a very cold room with the air conditioner blasting and the window open. Can’t even change the heat in the room. They changed us in a different room and the same thing ! But the room smelt like strong wet socks! I’m so pissed. The guy at the front desk was no help and gave attitude when I made a comment . I never had this of a negative experience before. This best western is ridiculous !

The room was larger than I expected, and the bed was comfortable. However, when I first entered the room, there was an odor to it. The thermostat wasn't working but the window that was able to open made it bearable because it got too warm at times. Having a microwave and small frig was a huge plus! All in all a great experience. I would stay there again.

Eight years ago, I was still happily carrying out my world travel plan. Alaska was a place I had longed to visit, so I couldn't miss it. I arrived at the Arctic House and saw elks. I saw the diamond-like night sky in the coldest and purest night, and witnessed the northern lights at two o'clock in the morning. I felt that my life was worth it.

I met a taxi driver whose name (I still remembered) Taby helped me to find my hotel in the thick snow ❄️

A local guy invited me to have Alaska crab dinner, and I did not get raped or killed. He also took me to Ice Sculpture Exhibition, I played the ice rainbow slide. 🛝

There are kind people, who keep you be confident with human being. I really appreciated。

A Snow White pure land. Something special experience for sure. Oh, and drinking in the ice cave bar.

Please consider your flight to choose hotel, I arrived 3 hours earlier than checking time. Ended waiting in the lobby.

MESSY and NOT MINDFUL.

The room was fine. There was a mess in the lobby, half of the space was cluttered.
In the morning we came to the breakfast area to find out that there is no breakfast service that day, front desk lady said “the breakfast girl didn’t show up today”, we kindly expressed our disappointment. We saw that the breakfast area had some fruits and yogurts, but front desk lady gave 0 efforts to offer anything. Eventually we got a complimentary bag of chips for 2 of us and we again kindly asked for another one.

The heater was out of order, not completely tho, was giving some little heat.

I appreciate that we could leave out bags for a few hours after the check out.

We found our experience very terrible last night when we stood in there. It was very noisy all night long and when we entered the hotel entrance, there were people outside smoking and the smoke cause one of my family members to be sick I am. I informed the customer service agent when we checked out of these experiences we received and asked to talk to a manager. I just got done talking to a person who would not identify herself and she said she was a manager, and she was totally unprofessional and threatened me to not come back. I was shocked because I stay at multiple best Western hotels and I’ve never seen this type of unprofessional customer service. I will inform the Better Business Bureau in Anchorage, Alaska of this unprofessional behavior and also I will inform the US military have no one go there this reason my fellow service members and families do not go to this hotel never again

I stay here often and it is just okay. The rooms have always been clean for me and the continental breakfast is very good. The wifi is kind of weak and the customer service is very hit or miss. The last time I went, one of the front desk members (night shift) was too lazy to help me when I was locked out of my room. She kept insisting that I was using my key card wrong, only to finally walk up to my room and realize the key reader was dead. Another time, I checked in and the front desk person had an attitude problem for no reason. So just keep that in mind when you book here.

This location is very convenient to the airport but I'm not sure what was going on but some major upgrades I guess. Walked into the main office to staked mattresses and boxes. Bed was comfy but sort of a wierd smell in the room.
