We went for the What the Dickens? Show, and I tell you that was the most fun I had in a long time. It was cold and some of the show was outside, but the show was so good and fun and interactive, you sang and danced and ATE some amazing food, so worth it! Would go again for sure!!! ❤️❤️

We didn't get to actually stay here, stumbled upon it accidentally and the owner was kind enough to let us look around, very nice people. It is truly an amazing place and they have done an excellent job of renovating it down to the last detail. We will definitely stay here our next time through. It's within 30 minutes of Fayetteville with plenty of hiking nearby.

I had been aware of Beard and Lady for a few years from social media and intrigued but hadn’t had a chance to stop in until yesterday, when it happened to be on our way home. Although I am sure we stopped in close to closing time, the staff assured us it wasn’t the case and welcomed us inside the apothecary, even offering us a full tour. As we are in the market for a wedding venue, I took Mary Ellen up on her offer and she led us through the grounds outside, the dining hall inside, and showed us every hotel room and the bathrooms upstairs, in addition to the apothecary where we first entered. She shared many interesting details and historical stories with us and answered our questions. She had a genuine affection for this place, understandably so, since it is just amazing on every level. The attention to detail, preservation of historic elements, and overall aesthetic of the rooms and grounds makes this place so special. I’m also told that the A&M Train will make a stop in Chester for wedding parties (they don’t normally stop there) so that would be amazing. Whether we decide to marry here or not, I can say we will definitely come back to stay at some point or another. That is how special this place is…the hotel IS the destination.

A very unique place to stay! If you love historic buildings and you don’t want a traditional hotel I highly recommend you try this place. The inn keeper was friendly and welcoming and the place was super clean. It is so well decorated and restored and the bed was fantastic.

BED BUGS. I absolutely understand this can happen at ANY type of lodging location! It is no one’s fault that these tricky bugs exist and will do anything to take over your beds/belongings. I regret not checking the bed before sleeping and regret not finding a different review before my stay 8/7/24 on another website from June 2024 about bed bugs in 2 rooms.
WITH THAT BEING SAID.. The location is absolutely beautiful and serene. Every single linen, piece of hardware, antique is so special and unique and carefully picked and it shows. I loved waking up and seeing the beautiful view from my room. There are samples from the apothecary in the room and the bathrooms and they’re wonderful. I bought some beauty items at the apothecary that are great. I was already planning my next visit until I found 6 bugs just on the top corner of the bed where I had just slept and another inside my shirt.
I will add getting a refund initiated for my stay should not have happened almost 2 weeks after it was mentioned with repeated check ins on my end. That was my biggest disappointment. I know life can get hectic for anyone but as a small business owner in hospitality I hope this was a giant lesson for how bed bug infestations and customer service can be handled in the future. I know my lesson will be that I’ll be more careful than ever staying any where else in the future as I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars dealing with the bed bug aftermath even though I was extremely careful to not bring them with me it happened anyway. If it wasn’t for the poor handling of the refund and that I assume this bed bug infestation wasn’t handled properly in June the review would be 5 stars! I don’t write this review because I think this is a bad place or anything! I only write this just so you can be careful because bed bugs are AWFUL.

Incredible hosts and atmosphere! This quaint and historic Inn is cozy, clean, and full of comforts, not to mention close to a plethora of outdoor attractions. A true gem for those looking for a unique and personal getaway.

The GOOD:
First and foremost, I have to say that the building is really cool. Love the history. My wife and I really enjoy places like this. Likewise, you can tell the owners have spent some money refurbishing the place. The rooms are clean. The AC worked good. Shared bathrooms are a little weird, but doable. It's off the beaten path. The Apothecary is also a neat little shop and the lady running it was quite nice to speak to. Since this is such an old building, we took our ghost hunting equipment with us and did get some hits, and had a few hits on our spirit box as well. So that was cool.

The BAD:
There's just too much to write so I cannot post it here due to the limitations placed by Google. So, I have posted our experience on TripAdvisor. I highly suggest reading that review BEFORE booking a room here! But keeping it short and to the point, there are 11 rooms, so you’re looking at there being as many as 20+ people that could be there at the same time as you, and you are entirely at their mercy if they are loud and obnoxious. Every noise echoes and resonates and you hear every tiny sound in your room that everyone else makes outside of your room. So, you are subject to each and every single noise that the other people make. If you’re a light sleeper, good luck. And god forbid that anyone is there when you are that has kids and just lets them run all over the place unchecked. It can turn a nice cozy stay at a historic building into an absolute nightmare. You're literally at the mercy of all those strangers and how they act and how much noise they make and if they let their kids run around the place yelling and screaming and do nothing about it. These old buildings have wood floors and very thin walls (sound deadening wasn't a thing when places like this were built), so you hear every word, every footstep, every slamming door, every child's scream, the klomping as the kids run up and down the hall and up and down the staircase, and on and on. Stay there with the wrong strangers, and you'll hate your stay immensely, just like we did. The people that were there when we were there made our stay MISERABLE. We could not wait to get up and get out of that place the following morning. It was awful. As I said, the details are on TripAdvisor.

All I can say is buyer beware because you don't know who else will be there if/when you go, and you don't know how they will act. We spent $150+ for a one-night stay, and it was the worst $150 we've ever spent for a night's stay ANYWHERE. I really wish we could charge the people from Texas for our stay since they are the reason our stay was miserable. I hate to leave a 1-star review against the Inn, since obviously they cannot control how guests act, but regardless, it was miserable. I'm quite sure we would have loved the place had we not have had to put up with the idiocrasy and lack of courtesy/consideration of the other guests.

UPDATE FOR OWNER: We stayed in our room with our equipment, which consisted only of silent meters other than the spirit box which has headphones (which is good, because otherwise we wouldn't have been able to hear a thing with all the ruckus going on in the hallway). Therefore, I can guarantee that no one was any the wiser that we even had any equipment running, and thus weren't being disturbed whatsoever. Likewise, all of our equipment was put away prior to 9:00PM. We're more thoughtful than the other guests that were on the premises. Thanks!

Everything about this place was excellent. The bedding was the most comfortable I've ever experienced on the road. The attention to detail in restoring this place was unmeasurable! Everything was exquisite! Our group was a little worried about the communal facilities but they were extremely well done, well thought out and super clean. Any detail that one can imagine to make a stay more comfortable has been carried out. Bravo!!! We are already planning a return trip so we can stay longer. Thanks for the great memories.
