We have been going to Bear River Resort for many years.
Was extremely shocked at how the place in now being ran.
Apparently, after the fire, the resort was sold.
Now, there is a price increase as well as a resort fee!
I wouldn't mind the price increase & resort fee if they updated and had clean restrooms & showers. We never take showers, and now we get charged for gross dirty showers. They looked like they hadn't been cleaned all summer. (Clothing hanging, several gross soap bars on floor & window, paper towels everywhere)
The toliets were all backed up and plugged with feces.
Extremely disappointed, and paid more for the grossness of the entire thing.
Sadly, our annual Bear River Resort camping trip will now have to be relocated due to the new mismanagement of the facilities

staff was rude. place was near empty, its off season, and staff was still rude. Maybe its really really boring to work/live here but we drove a long way to get here, Amenities are subpar, cleanliness is subpar, but throw in nice staff and its all fine. Rude staff? we wont be back. Don't know how they stay in business

Been going here in and off for many years. Great location and was sorry to hear about the fire but it may be a blessing in disguise. Place was a bit run down and dysfunctional.

Went camping bathrooms were near hot showers available. Only seeing was the ground was so unlevel. We were on a slant which I observed many campsites on slants which makes it difficult to get in and out.

Business Issue: Had to Cancel (with plenty of advanced notice) and they never issued a refund or even reached out. Understand that it's not much money, but still - that's not acceptable.

Back in the day, at this resort Bear River Resort, I had the most romantic experience in the world. He was on time, all the time. I know I will never forget that weekend, and can you believe I didn't even want to go because I barley knew Mr. Wonderful, bit soooo glad I did. So sorry to hear about the resort and the fire that took place.

I'll start this review by saying the campground and surrounding area is beautiful and we will be coming back as it's a close and affordable getaway from Sacramento, but I was very disappointed with our site upon arrival. There was trash scattered about and even a dried up pile of human poo with toilet paper everywhere. There was a beautiful boulder at our site but it smelled like urine all around. We arrived after the office was closed so we had to do some major cleanup before even being able to set up our site.

We did enjoy our time there after the initial gross-fest though. Having access to the water so close to our campsite was a treat and the mountain air was absolutely refreshing. We got some rain our first night there too and were blessed with a beautiful double rainbow.

The only other issue I had was with the receptionist who seemed very impatient and unhappy to answer my questions on the phone.

I wish I had read these reviews before booking. Like most opinions, the area around the privately owned campground is beautiful. The campground itself is a dump. Showers not functioning or in disrepair. They insist your pets be on a leash which I agree with but...their personal pets are on the loose constantly. The roads throughout the grounds have ruts so deep, you need a Sherman tank to find your site. But the creme de la creme was the household outlet receptacles used as hook ups that were nailed to a tree in hillbilly fashion (see picture). Then to top it off, they have a sticker on their office door that reads..."can't fix stupid". And you know...they're right! Their famous wooden lodge had just burned down days before we arrived and when I saw the power wire strewn through the trees to the household outlet, it all made sense to me.
