I chose this place for the atmosphere alone and was blown away by the food. If you love books and anything cozy, this is the place for you! I loved all the little details from the clever menu items to when you receive your check in a book. It is so adorable. Our party came for breakfast and enjoyed the English Omelette, Forager, Tolkien Breakfast, and Queen Victoria. Everything was so delicious that we came back again for the dinner service. Luckily, we were able to get reservations the day of but I would book ahead next time (thank you Shelby!) The dinner was just as amazing, definitely recommend the Chicken Pot Pie! It was a perfect way to spend our elopement dinner. The staff is phenomenal and I’m so happy this cozy cottage exists!

Incredible dining experience starting with the hostess, our waiter, the food and the owner Amanda! The appetizers and the El PARAISO margarita were our favorite! Their oysters and bone marrow (I believe a special of the night) were out of this world! If you haven’t been, I highly recommend! They also have such a cool vibe and theme and you can tell so much time went into tying it all together. We already made our next dinner reservation!

Pro-tip: make your dinner reservation ahead of time!

Their coffee and breakfast are divine as well! My favorite is their French omelette and freshly baked scones!

My visit to the Bear & Dragon Cafe in Prescott, Arizona, was a bit of a rollercoaster. While I’m generally not a fan of English cuisine, my date was eager to try out this eclectic spot for dinner. The ambiance is undeniably charming, with multiple seating areas that each give off a distinct vibe, creating a cozy and whimsical atmosphere. However, our experience wasn’t without a few hiccups.

We arrived a bit early for our reservation, only to encounter a rather puzzling wait situation. Despite seeing a couple get seated right away after walking in after us, we were asked to wait. When we inquired about grabbing a cocktail at the bar while we waited, we were told it was full, even though we later noticed an available table. While minor, this odd start set a slightly sour tone.

Once seated, I appreciated the quirky loveseat setup on one side of our table, which added a cozy touch. However, I sat in a rather generic chair that lacked the same charm. For drinks, I ordered the El Paraiso, described as a “refined” margarita, though it leaned too sweet for my taste despite asking the bartender to ease up on the agave syrup. The drink included habanero liqueur, which I had hoped would add some heat, but it lacked any noticeable spice. My date’s cocktail, on the other hand, was pleasantly surprising, featuring a creative garnish that was memorable.

The starters came out promptly and we enjoyed the mushroom bisque and the Lady Guinevere salad—both fresh and well-balanced. But just as my date finished her soup, I was only halfway through my salad when our main courses arrived. This somewhat rushed pacing detracted from the otherwise well-prepared dishes.

I ordered the salmon special, which had a rich, flavorful sauce that may have been a touch too heavy for my taste. My date opted for the Shrimp & Grits, a solid choice, but the advertised “Southwest Chilies” didn’t deliver the heat we expected. While we both enjoyed our meals, the portions were generous enough that we ended up with leftovers to take home.

Ultimately, Bear & Dragon Cafe has a lot going for it: charming decor, creative cocktails, and hearty portions. While our dinner experience was mixed, I’m intrigued to come back for breakfast or lunch, which may be better suited to their cozy, comfort-food-focused menu. However, if you’re not a die-hard fan of comfort food or if you’re seeking a leisurely, perfectly paced dinner, it may not hit all the right notes.

For me, Bear & Dragon is closer to a 3.5-star experience—there’s charm and creativity here, but a few service missteps and a menu that’s a bit limited in appeal keep it from reaching full potential. I’d still recommend it for anyone looking to try something a little different in Prescott.

This is a fabulous little restaurant with a very friendly and attentive staff and absolutely delicious food. The whole classic literature theme is so cool and the decor is great. The chicken pot pie and cottage pie are both very good! Highly recommend checking out this place. If you plan to go for dinner, call ahead and get a reservation.

This place was so fun! The theming is fantastic, down to the details on the menu! The owner was walking around chatting with people, I get the impression there are many regulars here. And the staff was friendly and helpful, especially visiting with 2 small kids. They got us 2 high chairs and books for the kids to enjoy. The breakfast food was good. I ordered the French omelette and a specialty coffee. Often I find French omelettes to be too wet and that was not the case with this one. My husband ordered the tea and scones and thought it was very good. I hope to come back and visit for their lunch/dinner menu sometime soon.

High quality, delicious food and drink in a fun and unique decor. We loved the classic literature theme atmosphere and the food was top notch. There was a good selection of beers and specialty drinks. The staff was especially friendly. We talked a little with the owner who was extremely nice and told us how the place got started and the bartender found out we were traveling and gave us some tips of places to go while we were visiting. We enjoyed the Fire Deake and Goldilocks Panins and they were both marvelous. I’d give it 6 stars if I could!

Update! We went back for breakfast even though we were only visiting the area for a few days. We never do that but it was so good and the 2nd time was just as wonderful. We came back for the Scones & Gravy and French Omelette. They were spectacular.

We went for lunch on 11/13/2024, the for high tea on Sunday. We had Prime Rib panini and a turkey & cheese panini, a Pumpkin Latte, and a Green Chai Latte. We'd order it again. Lunch bill was $42 for two diners, without tip. High Tea (need reservations!) was $49 per person for full service (less for smaller selections) that includes soup or salad, finger sandwiches, scones, desserts, and tea.
