Base Community Cafe is one of those local and authentic gems you always hope to stumble upon. Tucked away in the historic Bridgeport Art Center—originally built in 1911 as a warehouse and manufacturing facility for Albert Pick & Co., a supplier to restaurants and hotels—this place radiates real Chicago character. The café feels wrapped in the warm, storied brick of the city’s past.

Privately owned and operated, Base serves as a welcoming space for a new generation of entrepreneurs. Their locally sourced coffee is excellent, and the menu features a small but delicious selection of fresh pastas, along with an impressive array of signature breakfast bagel sandwiches.

But don’t think it’s just a morning stop—their menu of handcrafted sandwiches makes it a great spot any time of day. My personal favorites? The pistachio latte and what I’ve dubbed my own Saturday BLT Day. As a true BLT guy, I can honestly say theirs is one of the best in the city.

This place is a total hidden gem! Been here twice and my latte has been 10/10 both times, which is hard to come by because everyone knows coffee shops are never consistent. The owner is also super friendly and ensures that you are satisfied with your order. Honestly, much doesn’t have to be said because look at this picture, speaks for itself! Sooooo good.

A HIDDEN GEM! I stumbled on this cafe a few weeks ago and got their caramel mocha iced latte and the bacon egg and cheddar on a jalapeño bagel and holy moly! The drink was transcendent and the sandwich delectable! So of course, I HAD to go back.
Today I bought their sandwich, The Rebel, on the sourdough and a caramel mocha iced latte(no brainer). What a treat! The drink is sweet and strong and the sandwich is so flavorful! I am making this one of my top favorite cafe spots! I’m looking forward to trying their other menu options.
I also had a little more time to chat with the owner Paul. He is amiable, respectful and so pleasant to speak to. It was a pleasure getting to talk to him today. Congratulations on your cafe, Paul! You’re doing great things!!

I got the bacon, egg & cheddar signature bagel sandwich and a vanilla lavender latte. The bagel sandwich came out piping hot! I'm impressed by how they have the bagel pressed so it stays together and makes it easier to eat. Delicious. Great coffeeshop vibes, cool artwork and music, lots of places to plug in.

All of this place is great and unique. The services and all people working there make it special. This has to be one of the last LOCAL sports bars in Chicago, if not the few left. The ambience is great, good wifi and the space is full with chairs and tables.

Base Cafe checks all the boxes for me. Great coffee, great food, very kind service, and reasonably priced. I like that they support multiple local coffee roasters, using a different roaster based on which is best suited for espresso, cold brew, or drip. Their food specials are also on point. Soups are always super flavorful, the Char Siu they offer on special hits the spot every time. They always remember my order, and even if I have to wait a little longer for my food when they are busy, I know it's because everything is fresh and made to order. Good things are worth the wait!

This place supports the neighborhood in all the ways a business should; employing locals, offering their cafe as a warming location for houseless folks when temps dip, they have an open mic night, and when my coworkers and I were waiting for our restaurant to complete construction the Base team allowed us to work out of their cafe for several weeks. 5 stars all around!

Best breakfast bagel sandwiches in the city; no question! We’ve been coming here for several years now and absolutely love it. It’s a warm and welcoming environment that is community-centric and attracts great people. They host special events in the evenings for charitable causes. They have incredible, rotating art on the walls (they’re inside the Bridgeport Art Center building so many artists come through here) and awesome, eclectic music on the speakers. The staff is hilarious and always make us laugh. We are so thankful for the labor of love that Paul and his team have invested into our neighborhood.

Was referred to this place by a colleague who uses the space to work from their computer. They meet clients here. This space is incredibly beautiful, quiet, clean; free parking, bathrooms, excellent food and gracious service. My new found “office “ away from the home office. Great place to meet clients.
