They make great coffee here, but for a cafe that inherited such a cute and spacious location (especially for West Portal), they seem to have gone out of their way to make it as uncomfortable to hang out as possible. There are no tables outside in the cute garden, only benches. The quiet room in the back that used to have couches in the Before Days now has narrow desks. The stools in the front bar room, don't even get me started. Plus is closed at 4pm on Sunday. People clearly still come here to study and work but it would be nice if the owners didn't hate their clientele and wanted to torture them with this gross minimalism.
Again, they make great coffee. So it's a shame.

Coffee and service are great, back patio is nice though I wish they had better tables outside. Inside can be a bit dim and cramped when crowded, and I've come across some pretty annoying patrons, but it's open late and pretty good for getting work done.

Coffee here is good. Service is terrible. This is the third time I’ve seen some college kid hold an entire conversation for 8 minutes taking forever to pour a cold brew. First world problem, still had a great product

Staff are very friendly and chatty while also getting things done quickly and efficiently. Cold brew is great, one of the better ones I've had. Busy on weekdays, but the outdoor patio was open when we went and very pleasant away from the buzz inside

Lovely neighborhood cafe in West Portal. Really the only good cafe in the area with an awesome and friendly fan base and a lovely owner.
The highlight of this cafe is that it sells Filipino coffee, Barako, which is a lot stronger and robust than arabica that you find at ritual, blue bottle, etc.

They stock pastries from third culture and starter bakery, BUT they've been having pop-ups with other local Filipinx food vendors. It seems to be on a monthly basis, but their IG has updates on pop ups and collabs.

Overall a great and lovely cafe. and YES there is WiFi and indoor and outdoor seating!

Wonderful coffee! The staff told us to leave for a meeting which did rub my group the wrong way (her tone) but at least the coffee was great. Specialty drinks as well.

A charming painting-clad coffee shop with plenty of options, Ballast specializes in Starbucks-style sweetened drinks, with a particularly delicious iced Ballast latte including condensed milk. The texture of their drinks is impressively consistent, but the espresso leaves something to be desired, so I wouldn’t recommend a cappuccino or unsweetened drink here.
Since they’re open late and have lots of seating, it’s a great place to meet up with people and study.

Found this unassuming coffee spot in the neighborhood. We ordered their ube ballast cappuccino, barako crush (iced), and an ube mochi donut. We were surprised they have a cappuccino option. The drink ended up a bit too sweet for us though. Other than that we love everything about the place.
