We truly enjoyed our stay at the American River Inn. Each room is beautifully appointed and well-maintained. It was quiet and peaceful. We also enjoyed sitting outside on the 2nd floor balcony, as well as dining in the backyard. Unfortunately, the hot tub was not functional. The breakfast was tasty and copious. The host was kind, very accommodating and welcoming to our dog. We would return anytime.

I am shocked at the amount of positive reviews. I would say they were bought but it's clear the owners refuse to put any money into this business.
After 12 hours of driving, me and my father were greeted by the rudest most obnoxious person I have ever met in my life. She criticized and talked down for us, blocking our way into the inn for over 5 minutes before I cut her off to ask her if we had a place to stay or not for the night. She said yes because she had already ran our card for two nights (Thursday and Sunday) but that we were not welcome to come back to "her bed and breakfast" after that night. Never in my whole life have I been treated so poorly by anyone let alone hospitality staff.
I felt so unsafe with the clear fire code violations throughout the space and I won't even begin on the run down condition of the inn, terrible upkeep and disgusting smell that comes from the place.
From the way I was greeted in the beginning to the end of my visit I had felt so unsafe and unwelcome which is the last thing you would want to feel on a vacation. Don't even use this place as a last resort.
You are better off sleeping in a dumpster.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the American River Inn. It was like stepping back in time. The period furnishings throughout the inn were beautiful. Breakfast each morning was exceptional. We made ourselves at home even inviting local friends in for wine before dinner. Jason and his staff attended to our every need. We look forward to our return. Dick & Kate

Two stars because set breakfast was mother's home-cooking, with two sweet hired girls serving 5 tables. One star otherwise.
Hoping this would be the nicest stay of 8 accommodations in our 3 weeks in California, I was sorely disappointed. It was the worst; with later insult added to injury. First indication was the cracked glass in the front door; then small sign at owner's desk advising a currently non-functioning hot tub.
Owner described the several restaurants in the small town. Not much else open. He suggested a walk for activity which we did take, discovering little activity in the town.
Our room was a sad surprise, a mishmash of furniture, lighting, kitchen sink, but no refrigerator, a bath tub within the room, a separate compartment with toilet and sink. A renovated bathroom with shower was excellent, but across a hallway. As to lighting, the lights adjacent to bed were too dim to see for reading. The table lamp was difficult to use, the wardrobe in corner was too dark to use, had no hangers, and would not hold my suitcase which thus had to be placed on the table. Similar lighting problems at other side of room. The worst of the room was the stand-alone roaring air conditioner, over which the road roar of accelerating loud trucks and cars went on 'til toward 10 or 11 pm, indicating life speeds past this town.
I early discovered that the door from the room onto the veranda actually could be opened, however there was no sitting furniture on the dirty porch. Later in the evening I saw my way out to a back porch, discovering a beautiful grassy, shaded back yard. Never had it been mentioned by the owner. Unfortunately by this time, mosquitos were in attack mode.
The bed of the noisy room was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, the high point of the day. Gently approaching the owner, as my wife and I had decided we did not want to re-cross the very deep canyon to Placerville and back, in order to suffer through another night at this place, I patiently negotiated with the objecting owner a request for refund of some money for this 2nd night. He was unhappy but after consulting his mother, he offered to return $150 of that day's fee. I suggested that he need only return $125, as he had been indicating some hardships. He then laughed "hah, hah, what about making it $100.?" I laughed too, thinking it an ungenerous joke.
We are quite angry to find he refunded us only $100! I do suggest this place be avoided.

We had an amazing experience hosting a company luncheon at the American River Inn.
Jason and the team were gracious and accommodating. The food was delicious and hearty - just what we needed after a cold day out in the field.
The intimate dining room was the perfect setting for a small group conversation about the future possibilities of our industry.
Cannot recommend more!

My mother and I wanted to have some mother/daughter time. We drove up to the Inn from Oroville Ca. When we arrived we were greater by everyone in the parlor. Last minute we made a change to which room we would take. We decided to take room 11 it had 2 twin beds and was on the first floor. The breakfast the next morning was mediocre. I couldn't pin point if the scrambled eggs were air fried or microwaved. I expected a little more effort beings the Inn had only 6 guests for breakfast that morning. Back to the beds. Twin mattresses these days are rather inexpensive and the mattresses we slept on were beyond horrible and are in desperate need of replacing. The Inn was decorated beautifully but if it's a Bed and Breakfast then both the Beds and Breakfast should be top notch in my opinion if you want guests to return.

Horrible horrible horrible hostess. Place is lovely but customer service just renders our vacation into a disaster. We were very respectful to this place, given this place is old and squeaky, but nicely decorated. The very contact with the rude hostess just threw that lovely feeling right away. I think she might be the owners’ mom. She is very rude to the guests and to the caretaker who knows the basics of customer service. It’s like you have to live in the spare room of a mean relative. There was no relaxation or enjoyment that we expected. She straight up came to us to demand price increase, because we are the only one using the shared bathroom? I was so livid. A piece of advice to the owners, keep her away from the business. No money from me to B&B again after a traumatic experience like this.

The best, lovely family owned Inn. Very clean, beds were comfortable. We could not hear anyone else at night. We had 1 room with a private bath and another room with a shared bath. The shared bath would not be a problem. I think many of the rooms have an option for a private bath. There is a nice patio and a hot tub which is tucked away with nice privacy. We did not have any breakfast we left too early. Jason's mom is so helpful, sweet and kind. If you like old homes this is a must stay. I wish we would have had more time here. We were here to do the Rubicon trail. I will be coming back here just for a stay. Thank you all for making our stay so comfortable.
