I stayed at this hotel for two nights (April 21–22, 2025) and had one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at any hotel—both in terms of room condition and customer service.

Room 529 was in horrible condition. The shower ceiling was ripped and caving in, covered with mold and mildew. The wall panel near the bathroom sink was cracked. The sink was dirty, and there was hair on the towels, in the fridge, and in the shower. This level of filth is absolutely unacceptable, especially from a hotel under the Aloft brand.

I reported all of this to a staff member named Elizabeth on the morning of Tuesday, April 22. Instead of offering help, she cut me off and said, “I remember you, you’ve been here before,” then, “You always have a problem with the room,” and finally, “Why do you stay here?” That level of rudeness and unprofessionalism was shocking.

Elizabeth said I’d be moved to another room later that day. But when I returned that evening, the front desk said no message had been left, and no room was available. I had to stay in the same disgusting room, and my towels hadn’t even been replenished.

Later that night, I called the front desk and the woman who answered didn’t even identify herself. She just said, “Who is this and where are you?” When I gave my name and room number, she hung up on me. Completely unacceptable.

I also left a voicemail for the General Manager, Robert Giere, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, and followed up by calling again on Thursday, April 24. The front desk told me they would let him know I had called, but I received no response. Still nothing.

This whole experience was disgraceful. From the filthy room to the appalling way I was treated, I’m honestly questioning why I’ve ever stayed at this property. I expect a serious follow-up and compensation for this mess.

I travel to Birmingham frequently for work—but I will not be staying here again.

Beautiful hotel. Excellent service, loved the location, and the atmosphere was great. Upon check in I was given 2 bottles of water and the room already had some waiting for me. They know how to make you feel welcomed. The breakfast selection wasn't the greatest but I am a little picky when it comes to breakfast. Next time I am in town definitely checking in!

I’m staying at the Aloft Bham Hotel for a work trip. I’m so glad that I decided to start my morning by coming down to breakfast because Shakirah takes customer service to the next level! It is obvious that she loves her job and enjoys making the food look just as good as it tastes! Her peppy energy and smile along with the delicious breakfast has definitely started my day on the right note.

Stayed in April 2025 for a family wedding. First time in Birmingham and we loved Aloft! Hotel was clean, modern and fun. Staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly-felt like coming home every night (thank you Shakira!). Walking distance to rest and pharmacy. Would definitely stay here again!

As someone who has enjoyed my stays at other Aloft properties, I had a horrible experience at the Birmingham Soho Square location and would not recommend staying here to anyone.

I booked a set of eight rooms for a work trip. When we arrived, we were told one of the reservations had been cancelled by an employee, but they could not tell us when or why it was removed. They said the hotel was sold out so they couldn't offer another room and just blank stared at us and repeated "I Don't Know" when we asked where my coworker was supposed to sleep. Zero care about the situation at all. And no notice of the cancellation until we checked in.

Upon entering the room and pulling back the duvet, we saw that the sheets were covered in black hairs. When we called the front desk, they said that if we cared, we could come downstairs and grab a new set of sheets and change the bed ourselves(!) When my coworker called the Marriott support line, they said that they couldn’t help her because she was not a Bonvoy member. We also had issues with the blinds and other room items being broken. And at the bar, the bartender sat off to the side on her phone the whole time, not paying attention to the full bar of people waiting for drinks.

We will not be staying here again. I would recommend the nearby Valley hotel, or literally any other hotel in the area.

Keisha Burch is a true professional and an absolute gem at Marriott. From the moment I arrived, she went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of with warmth, efficiency, and genuine care. It’s rare to find someone so committed to hospitality at this level, Keisha didn’t just provide great service, she made the entire experience feel personal. Marriott is lucky to have her, and guests are even luckier to be in her hands.

Bathroom door in our room was broken and wouldn't close. So, we couldn't shower or use the toilet with any privacy. Staff was aware of the issue but wouldn't do anything about it and made us wait 20 minutes for their system to audit before they would even look for another room for us. She explained over and over how it wasn't her fault implying it was mine. No one apologized or made this right. They said we could talk to a manger but the manager didn't show up before we had to leave for our meeting. Really unhelpful staff.

This hotel is fine. The location is fantastic. The bed is comfortable and clean. The rooms need updating. The shower pressure was low and the temp lukewarm. Upon checking in, the desk agent said she would add my Bonvoy #. When I checked out, I was unable to get a copy of my receipt (internet issues?). The rep had not added my Bonvoy # so I could not get it online. It took 3 calls to the hotel, 1 internet inquiry and 3 calls to corporate and I still do not have a copy of my receipt. As this was a business stay, the receipt is required. Who has time for this? Will not recommend to my colleagues.
